I became a vegetarian to combat the high grocery prices. I've also cut back to drinking only water, milk and coffee. (The milk is about 1/2 cup a day for said coffee).

It's easy to break down the prices to one thing adding up to 11 cents. It's when that 11 cents is multiplied by 3 or 4 family members, 7 days a week on about 50 food items each. It doesn't sound like much but try adding 33 cents to 3 meals a day 365 times a year.

Rounding slightly for the sake of ease, $365 per family member per year. And that is if every food item ONLY increases by 11 cents.

Yeah, you know me. Always looking on the bright side.

Here, coffee alone has went up close to $2.00 a cannister...that's more than 11cents.

I can't believe how much bacon is now....it's really gone through the roof. Maybe it's a good thing since our whole family is trying to eat healthier.

We stopped at a deli/butcher shop the other day and they were selling 500g packs of bacon (that's a little over a pound) 2/$3! We only got two because we didn't know if it was any good, but it turned out to be the best bacon I've ever had.

I need to get back asap to see if it's still that price. If it is we might be switching to an all bacon diet

    Thanks for the article!!

I have noticed some increases as well, but I think I am able to save enough with coupons on other things to offset it. Of course keep in mind, its just me and cat and BF occasionally eats here. My fruits and veggies come out of my patio garden, my grannies, or the discount bin.

btw, those sprouting potatoes can be easily planted for another crop! Thats actually what I use as seed potatoes. Check online for some video's potatoes are super easy to grow. You can actually use those cheap reusable cloth grocery bags instead of pots.

I purchase Flour and Oil 1 time a year from Sam's when they allow you to shop without a membership. I buy 1 50LB bag of flour and freeze it in quart jars and I buy 2 ea 5 Quart jugs of oil. It keeps and so far is the cheapest way to get it.

When I saw bacon listed I was wondering why it was a staple. I usually buy the packages of bacon ends I find in the meat section. The divide it up in portions and freeze. Basically the only way I can afford bacon.

You can also freeze oil. It thaws very quickly. I freeze it in the plastic containers it comes in. I've also held oil in the fridge for long periods of time.

I need to see if I can get oil in larger containers and if there's a cost savings. Thanks for making me think of that! We don't have any of those membership discount stores within a hundred miles, so it's the local stores for us, and they don't have much for bulk items.
