    Default Cookbook Rave!!!

After this book, I'm ready to donate, sell and toss most of my other cookbooks!

The book is called More-With-Less. It is a fabulous book. There's a great beginning chapter to read. It was originally printed in 1961. It's a very good basic cookbook. I'd heard about it on my local homeschooling email list. I was going to buy it sight unseen, but took it out from the library instead. I finally got it just before we headed out camping for a week. I brought it with me.

The premise of the book is to make quality nutritious food without a ton of ingredients. So really, it was perfect for the RV. I tried several recipes while we were out there, and not one failed me. My picky eaters ate it all. Even the soups were a hit, and my family isn't a homemade soup family. I love soups, they usually don't. I made basic baking mix while out there too. Made pancakes, muffins, banana bread, and a type of cobbler like thingie with it. Nothing was left uneaten.

So after returning from camping, I decided to order it. I had been giving a gift card for books, so it was no family budget money.

What is unique about it, is it gives the recipe, but above all the recipes there are reader comments. The comments give suggestions to tweak the recipes.

Tonight I tried another recipe. Creamed chicken over rice squares.

Basic recipe for chicken - saute garlic onion. Add flour, then broth and milk. Add chopped cooked chicken.

Rice- saute red and green peppers, onion and garlic, add to cooked rice, add grated cheese, beat eggs and milk, bake it.

The comments had suggestions for other veggies. Dh doesn't tolerate onions or peppers. So I opted for just garlic for the chicken and some seasonings, the chicken was left over from the night before. The rice used up left over broccoli. It was a hit, not much for leftovers again, enough for lunch. But it used up what was left over from the night before, and many recipes you're able to do that.

The recipes we've tried have been a hit, and it reminds me of my grandmothers and how they prepared things.

Tomorrow ds17, who hates leftovers, has already said he's making open faced hot sandwiches with the chicken Warms a mothers heart that he wants it..lol

~I've had this book on my Amazon wishlist for years. I keep waiting for my library to have it so I can see it first before buying it.
    Glad you're loving it!~

I ordered mine through chapters.ca in Canada, as I had a gift card

I didn't know there was a sequel! I'll have to see if the library has it.

I have the book, too. You're right, it is a great book. My favorite parts are actually the writings in front of the chapter that discuss things like nutrition and poverty. I think I got mine off of Amazon.

I have this one, too. I don't remember liking it as much as the cookbook, though.

This is a MCC cookbook, too. I don't know if it's as good because I haven't traveled through it the way I've gone through MWL.

It's a great read! I, too, loved the first 'chapter' of reading. It explains so many things, over eating, protein sources, balance. I am very pleased to own it.

    mommy4ever,
I just received my copy from the library and it's an A+, four star cookbook!
I've got bookmarks all through it and will copy down delicious sounding recipes as soon as possible.
    Thank you for the recommendation.
