Default where to buy bulk black beans? online?

Sorry to ask this as I'm sure it's been asked before, but the search function is not yeilding an answer for me yet.

Where do you buy your dried black beans in bulk?

Locally I can only find 1 & 2 pound bags at an average price of about $1.25 per pound.

It's not a bad price, but If I can beat it significantly by buying 25 or 50 lb bags I'd like to.

...or is it like buying flour. Locally I can buy a small 5-lb bag of flour for about 1.65 If I buy a 25-lb bag I can save 10-cents or so per pound, but then I need to invest in storage solutions. Right now it makes for sense to just buy a bag or 2 as needed and save the $$ that I would have spent on storage for other better bang-for-the-buck options.

I don't want to trip over dollars to save pennies.

Do you have bulk food stores in your area or markets that repackage foods such as beans? If you do, I would ask them whether they would sell you the beans in whatever size packages they get them.

You can probably buy larger packages online, but the shipping costs might wipe out any savings. This is not a lightweight product.

We get them at Gordon Food Service although last time Meijers was cheaper on sale in the 2# bags.

Try any healthy market like whole foods, or Earthfare that sells beans by the pound out of bins. I get 25 lb bags from them since that is the size they get in to refill their bins. I also get a discount from them for a bulk buy.

Sign up for email notifications with Honeyvillegrain and Emergencyessentials. I know Honeyville only charges $4.49 shipping no matter how much you order. They send out codes via email every few months for 10% off your order. I order $100+ every time they offer a discount. My stockpile is coming along nicely - cereals, flour, fruit, veggies, powdered milk, etc.

Until I read the replies, I was going to suggest going to a Latin Market. I get my black beans in bulk for 99 cents a pound and they have them in bulk bins.
But now......I am going to check out honeyvillegrain.
Keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks for the links. It looks like my local Meijers is cheaper than the online options. We don't have any whole foods or bulk food stores in our area. Looks like the bases are covered, so I'll just have to wait for a good sale and stock up.
