Default Your favorite basmati rice recipe?

I just bought 10 lbs of basmati rice (it was on sale of course!) - but ... I've never bought basmati rice before!!!

So please tell me your favorite recipe using it. I need ideas!

I don't use anything else but basmati rice. It's so delicious!

I put gluten free crockpot sloppy joes over it and eat it with a side of corn. I also use it with chili, beef stew and make lots of homemade indian food with it. You can make things like tikka masala, chicken curry, etc in the crockpot and those go fabulously with basmati rice.

I love it just by itself, or with any kind of stir fry over it. Also beef roast or short ribs are good served over it.

A word of warning, if you bought basmati in Indian or asian packaging. It will contain bugs. You'll want to rinse the rice in a bowl of cold water, slosh it gently and you'll see brown specks and maybe even a few black bugs floating. I find that 3 changes of water generally does it, unless you continue to see specks.

    butter or veg oil
    1 small onion diced
    minced garlic to taste
    minced ginger to taste
    1 cup basmati rice
1 can coconut milk + enough water to equal 2 cups total.

Saute onion in butter or veg oil in oven proof dish, when just translucent add garlic and ginger and saute 1 more minute. Add rice stir until well coated, add coconut milk and water. Tightly cover dish and cook in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.

This is just another take on rice pilaf, you can add whatever liquids and seasonings you desire.

It is interesting that you mention bugs... DH and I were just pricing out bulk rice (jasmine and basmati) tonight and I had a feeling the ones the cheaper ones could have bugs. good to know! thanks!!

I use either basmati or jasmine rice for anything calling for long-grain rice.

I used it for the first time last night (lentils and rice - a recipe I make anyway with regular rice) and it made the kitchen smell really good!
