I own the Make-A-Mix Cookery book and it does have some good recipes. I've gone through the More Make-A-Mix book and wasn't nearly as impressed. I copied some of the recipes from it into the first one and called it good enough. Both are OOP and usually sell for a high price if you can find them at all.
Another good one is Make Your Own Groceries. I also have that one, it's also OOP, and it also sells for a small fortune. There's a sequel to that, too. Again, I thought the first one was better, but did copy some recipes from it. IMO, Make Your Own Groceries is the best of the four, as it includes recipes not only for mixes, but also for pet items, cleaning supplies, condiments, sauces, crackers, etc, etc, so it covers a much broader range of items.
I got both sequels from our library through interlibrary loan.
What I've found with making my own mixes is I've needed to lose the expectation that what I make will taste just like what I bought in the store. Sometimes we need to acquire a taste for the new mixes. I found that to be true of the creamed soup mix, but now we like it better. I've also found there's a lot of trial and error. Some things sound good but aren't.
The BEST thing about making my own groceries is I get to control the salt in them. Most store bought mixes like chicken coatings or taco seasoning are mostly salt and IMO don't really have any other flavor. I never add salt to that kind of stuff. Having actual flavor in our food is a wonderful thing and much more healthy, too.
If you Google for jar mixes, gifts in a jar, homemade mix recipes, or for a specific mix you're interested in, you'll find all kinds of stuff. Ditto for cracker recipes or whatever else strikes your fancy.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
