I remember when I first joined the village, you were doing sour dough starter. Did you ever do any more of it or make bread from it?

Well it took me like almost 9 days to do it with "natural" yeast. After that, I was so sick of staring at it. rofl I didn't make anything, can you believe that?? I was actually a bit scared to use it after all that. lol I am like that with friendship bread too. I know it comes out good, but I can't get past that how long has it been fermenting on the counter? lol
It's funny you posted this because I made a new pancake recipe today and as I was going through recipes, I saw a lot of sourdough recipes and was thinking wellllllll....
I'd definitely like to try my hand at it again and make a decent artisan bread. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Sara, its kinda funny because I remember so well when you started that and I said I would like to give it a try. But like you I'm not sure I could let it sit that long, so still haven't made any.

Oh, I remember when I was younger, my mom would make sour dough bread all the time. I loved it. She use to keep starter in the fridge all the time. One of these day's I hope to try it out myself. First I'll have to call my mom for the recipe.

hey! I forgot. I did make pizza. I just didn't eat any. rofl
I had never made sour dough starter without adding packaged yeast, so the thought of "catching" the yeast was new to me and fun.
The first couple of days I kept thinking it sure seemed awfully similar to homemade school paste. rofl I definitely could have paper mached a project. heheIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I just got finished reading to dd the part in the LIW book "By the Shores of Silver Lake" where Laura explains to Mrs. Boast how Ma made such fluffy biscuits for their Christmas meal. The secret was her sourdough starter. I actually thought about trying it, but now reading this....hmm! Dh and I do love sourdough -- maybe it's best for our waistlines if I don't start making our own! I only buy it now as a special treat!! Sourdough crust for a pizza sounds delish!

ok, I'm inspired. I'm going to start a sour dough starter today. I've wanted to do this for a long time and there's no time like the present.
I was talking to DS about starters and he said that there are also stock starters that chefs guard with their lives. Neil Perry, a famous Australian chef, apparently has a starter that's 150 years old! It's the basis of all his sauces.
