    Default Vinegar Pie

    Vinegar Pie recipe

    1 cup of water
    2 eggs
    2 tablespoons of vinegar
    1 cup of sugar
    2 tablespoons of flour
    1 tablespoons of butter
    1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract
    1 9-inch baked piecrust

Mix the sugar, water, eggs, vinegar, and the flour in the top of a
double boiler. Cook, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth
and thick. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the lemon
extract and the butter. Pour into the baked piecrust and let cool.

When my grandmother first made this I thought she was nuts and didn't want to try it, it soon became one of my favorites.

This sounds interesting, I might try it. Is there any substitutions for lemon extract? Have you tried another flavor extract? I'm curios because I don't have any lemon extract at this time.

I haven't tried the recipe, it's always been one I wanted to try. Maybe Kathryn will spot this and answer?

Why not try any citrus flavour that you have on hand Beth? Lime, or orange maybe???

Might come out awful, but then you'd have to come all the way up from Texas to whack me with a slice of it, and I'm up here in Kamloops BC!

On the other hand you might develop the newest best frugal pie going????

I agree with Margery, any citrus extract should be fine. I love this pie. When my grandma told me the name I thought it would be bitter or taste like vinegar, but it's sweet. The vinegar and flour are just used to make it thick.

If you try another flavor of extrat let me know what you used and how it was.

This vinegar pie sounds so interesting....
Think I would try this and have my jury back home decide.
