Thank you - thats a good one for dip - I am looking for one that would be a little more chunky!! (with bean bits, and what not! )

I just cook pinto beans then mash with a potato masher. If you want to "refry" them, pour a little olive oil into a saute pan, add a clove or two of minced garlic, whole cooked pinto beans and seasonings of your choice (cumin, chili powder, a squeeze of lime juice or whatever) get your potato masher and mash away. leave some larger "bean pieces" if you like yours that way. Many of the canned refried beans contain lard, but lard is not very healthy.

I used to work in a Mexican restaurant, they would just throw the cooked beans while still hot in a big ol' industrial mixer with a pound of lard, and beat them up. No "frying" was ever involved!

here is how I do mine
    Cooked pintos
    Fresh garlic (crushed)
    Onion (diced)
    Olive oil

Heat olive oil in large cast iron skillet, add onion and garlic. cook til tender. Add pintos and mash with a fork. add seasonings to your taste.

This is how my Grandmother cooked them for my Grandpa (who was Hispanic)

    Hi Kimmee,
I don't think I was the one that said that, but I do make my own as well...I use the link that Kim (QuilterMom) gave, but I use dried red kidney beans for mine.
