Anyone else love to cook but hate baking/dessert making?
My best friend and I were discussing this and it seems that cooks fall into two basic camps. (By real food I mean main dishes, casseroles, vegetables, side dishes, anything that is not a bread or sweet.)
1. Loves to cook "real" food, hates making desserts/baking
2. Loves to bake and make all kinds of desserts, hates to cook "real" food
I am definitely a type 1. Ninny (who taught me to cook) was a type 1. Momma is a type 2. Which type are you?

It's not that I dislike cooking--I am just better at baking. It works out well here because Dave is a really good cook but not so good at baking (he doesn't want to follow a recipe and doesn't understand that some things *have* to be just so in order for the product to turn out right.)

LOL, guess I'm an odd one then, cause I love to do both, but I know what you mean. I have many friends who either love to cook or bake, but not both.

I like to do both.I find baking more relaxing though

I'm definately a type 1. Most times I don't use recipes and get ideas on how to prepare the food as I go. So baking sweets is hard for me because you really do have to follow the recipe otherwise things just don't turn out.

I'm type 1-- love to cook, rarely bake. I don't hate baking, I just don't enjoy it as much... plus we only eat desserts once in a while.

I'm definitely a type 2 but I'm trying to do more "type 1" cooking as well. Philip loves to cook and cooks for us quite often so I've had the fun of cooking "fun" stuff.

I love to do both but I don't like to follow recipes very much. Itend to make up my own recipes or improvise alot.

I'm type 1. I like the feeling I get from feeding my family as good dinner. Desserts are nice but are mostly wasted calories. Give me cheese and pasta over cake & pie any day, lol.
When the kids were younger I had the cookie jar always filled. Now that they are gone the only baking I do are biscuits & cornbread.~*Darlene*~

I am both.
I love to bake but I also love to eat what I bake. I got out of the habit a few years back because of medical reasons so I don't bake much any more.

What if you just plain hate to cook?! LOL I wish like crazy that I did!! It is very hard to save money on food when you don't enjoy cooking and preparing food! I just do the best I can, but wish I was more like you girls! You are all inspiring me to do better. I do enjoy baking some when there is no hurry or pressure for it to come out perfect for a special occasion.

I love to do both. I find it easier to be creative with cooking, because these dishes are generally more forgiving, but I love nothing more than the smell of baking breads or desserts.
