I like that site too, thanks for sharing.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

I have a recipe that my great grandmother made and my family always called it Depression Casserole - it has tomato soup, egg noodles, burger, onion and green pepper - I used to love it as a kid but alas dh doesn't so I haven't made it in a long time. Love the website - thank you!

I have several magazines from the depression and war times that have some very interesting recipes. Like a Vienna Sausage casserole and things along that line. Things we would never think of putting together were made into dinner for their families.
Thanks for the link!

Depression Era Recipes
I think I fainted when I finally came across this site! (not to say that the Village hasn't fattened my cookbookery (yes, it's a real word, I just made it up)
Now I don't have to scour the library looking for cookbooks, only to be let down because it seems the concept of 'frugal cooking' escapes some publishers...
With everything going on, it doesn't hurt to get ready ahead of time... I plan on going through the recipes, see what I can adapt, and then plan my stockpile according to the recipes I can use.

I couldn't get the link to work. Maybe it's my computer. Has anyone else gotten it to work?

I've seen this site before but had forgotten about it. Thank you for posting it, there are several recipes that I'd like to try. It's also interesting to see the different names/measurements for ingredients that were prevalent then.

It worked for me.
Although a lot of the recipes use quite a bit of butter & sugar ...things that were hard to come by in the Depression.
