Can I bake a cake in a mixing bowl?
Daughter is having a Harry Potter themed birthday party on Sunday. I'm thinking of making a Snitch cake. (For those of you who haven't read the series, the Snitch is a golden ball used in the game of Quidditch.) Unlike Molly Weasley, I can't make one that is completely round and use my wand to make it hover out to the table.
However, I have a stainless steel mixing bowl that is pretty close to a hemisphere. Will I wreck the bowl? The oven? Both? Clearly the cooking time will be very different.
Any other ideas?

I have baked cakes in my bowels...i did turn my oven down to 325 and baked it until I could run a knife into it and it came out clean..don't know just time...be careful not to over fill the bowel with cake mix because i have done that and caught the oven on fire when it came out over the top

if you had two bowls you could split the batter between the two and that would cut down the bakeing time, and make a rounder ball.
To answer the question, yes you can. Anthing that is oven safe will be fine.

yes, I'd lower the temp and bake it longer if it is much thicker than a normal cake would be to make sure it gets done in the center.

I also agree that you can use a oven save bowl. That is such a cute idea for a cake.
