need help with mushrooms
i am very very allergic. But we were given some, DH loves them but never gets them because...im allergic.
Anyhow we have portabellas...portabellos...whatever they are called. I want to put them in an omlette for him. As a hey "i love you" dinner for him. what i need to know is do i cook the mushies BEFORE going into the omlette or will they cook with the rest of the egg/onions/etc.
second...we were given a lot. Can I freeze them?? how? cooked, raw, whole, cut, etc.

I would saute in butter and then add to the omlette. Also would cook the same way before I froze them. I've done it in the past with good success, but they weren't portabello's. Hope this helps.

he ate, asked for water and went to bed. Mind you I cooked for him special in my pain induced vicodin daze...and he didn't mention if it was anything out of the ordinary for him or not. Not even a glimmer of oh, hey...she made me something special...
argh. But at least i have gotten rid of another, with out wasting it. I believe i have two more to go.

Mmm, Portabellas. The best I had was grilled with cheese melted on it. YUM.
I agree that you should cook them before freezing. 'Shrooms are mostly water and if they are frozen fresh they will become mush when cooked.
I had to laugh though when reading the thread title. I have promised my husband that this marriage is till death do us part.... so we tease each other of using poisoned mushrooms sometime. (based on an old old joke of a woman who was married 3 times. the first two died of mushroom poisoning, the third due to being hit on the head with a skillet..... because he didn't eat the mushrooms.)The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.
