    Default Eggnog recipe

Can anyone help me with a good eggnog recipe?

Here in Holland we cannot buy eggnog anywhere.
It is just not a product that is sold in Holland.

On saying that I did once - many years ago - manage to find a very small carton of processed, sterilized eggnog. It was horrible!!
It was BTW the first and last time that I saw it in any store.

    Please can anyone help me?
Thank you for any trouble taken.

I have the best eggnog recipe in the world- it's my grandma's, and I look forward to it every year.

    Amy's Grandma's Eggnog recipe:
    6 eggs, separated
    1 cup sugar
1 pint whipping cream (or you can sub soft ice cream) -- I always use the whipping cream
    1 pint half and half
1 1/2 cups liquor (whiskey, bourbon or the like) Grandma was known to stand by the bowl and pour in the alcohol, never measuring anything... hers could get a little strong!
    1/4 cup rum
    Nutmeg

(Of course you can leave out the alcohol completely if desired.)

Beat egg whites until fluffly. Gradually beat in 1/2 cup sugar. In another bowl, beat egg yolks until fluffy. Add 1/2 cup sugar. Add cream, half and half, and liquor. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

I make this in a punchbowl, with the alcohol on the side for anyone who wants to spike their own. Enjoy!

I also posted this over at Homestead Gardens in response to a thread there a year or so ago, so if this looks familiar to you, that's why. And there's a link to it on my cooking blog, too.

    Here is Paula Deen's recipe.

    Mama's Eggnog
    Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
    6 egg, separated*
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 pint heavy cream
    4 pints milk
    1/2 pint Bourbon
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    Nutmeg
In a bowl beat the egg yolks with the 1/2 cup of sugar until thick. In another bowl beat the egg whites with 1/4 cup of sugar until thick. In a third bowl beat the cream until thick. Add the cream to the yolks, fold in the egg whites, and add the milk, Bourbon, vanilla, and a pinch of nutmeg, if desired. Chill in freezer before serving.
Serve eggnog in a large punch bowl.

    *RAW EGG WARNING
Food Network Kitchens suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly-cooked eggs due to the slight risk of Salmonella or other food-borne illness. To reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly-refrigerated, clean, grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell.
