Butternut Squash?

Okay, I bought a butternut squash yesterday. How do I bake/cook it? I want it for tom.

not a fabulous or fancy recipie---I just split it and load each half with butter and brown sugar and bake.......yummy!!

depends on the size I am thinking about an hour, but just check once in awhile with a knife for tenderness.

I have baked it in the oven, but I have also cooked it in the microwave. Do the same thing for both...add a little water and cook about 30 min. In micro cover with a damp paper towel while cooking.

For butternut squash we peel it and chop it into pieces. We then steam it until it is soft. I have a friend who microwaves it and then steams it so the process is quicker. I bet you could just microwave it and skip the steaming part.

After the pieces are soft mash with a potato masher. We add brown sugar. My friends add butter and brown sugar.

( I was given an acorn squash. I believe I have never tasted one before. My sister-in-law said you bake acorn squash in the oven.)
