I've finally figured out why I hate to bake!!!!
First of all, there is too much measuring involved!!!!!!!!!! I'm not a measurer, I just throw things in! Second of all, all that time involved and it is gone in 1 day! I made (with dd) sugar cookies on Fri. night. They were gone by Sat. night!!!!:surprise:

Many times a little extra work results in something people really enjoy, hence the cookies being gone so fast. Think of it as giving them a little sugar(love & kisses) with every measurment & enjoy the smiles.

You will get the hang of it..practice makes perfect..I love to bake! I love the warm feeling it gives me when I see my family enjoying a homemade treat that I made for them even if they eat it all in one day..LOL..I didn't start baking my own cookies until around 7 or 8 years ago.. My mother never baked a cookie in her life or any dessert for that matter...Nobody bakes in my family except my Aunt. After reading the tightwad gazzette I haven't bought a package of cookies in years....My youngest nephew thinks I'm greatest when he comes to visit me because I always have something sweet that I had made..his mom never bakes them(him and my other nephew) cookies...that little man just brightens my day just to see how excited he gets over my homemade goodies..and to think I've given him memories that he will never forget over something as easy as that. You will also give your daughter the same warm memories...

I hate having to follow a recipe. Baking is not conducive to the toss & throw method
At least not good baking.
My least favorite part of baking though, is the clean up
Waaay too many dirty dishes!!

LOL...I love to bake and measure, but I know what you mean about all that hard work being gone in a split second! Many times the baking product will be gone before I even have a chance to have a cookie!

I do my best cooking in the oven, regardless of if it's baking or casseroles. But you're right about the dishes!

I am a measurer, so that part doesn't bother me. I get a little stressed out when I see "a pinch of this" or a "splash of that".
I hate that everything I make seems to be gobbled down in the blink of an eye and clean-up the most! I guess I should take the "magically" disappearing cookies as a compliment though, considering a bag of store-bought cookies linger in the pantry for a week or two, sometimes more! DBF is a cookie hound.

I love baking too. I figured out a long time ago that when baking, double up and just do two or three batches of whatever I'm baking and I only have to clean up one mess, LOL. I also stand a better chance of getting some of what I bake when I do this too.

Oh I love to bake!
I bake in bulk. I'm also a toss and shake kinda gal, but learned that a little measuring goes a long way for many things. Not all are that finicky though.
When I make cookies, it's about 20 to 30 dozen at a time. If I'm low on time, I freeze the dough and bake later.
When I bake bread it's 10 loaves at a time.
I love to bake. I have more control over everything. But I want to find a way to make whole grain breads at home. Still looking for a good recipe..lol
Dishes are a non issue. I start baking by filling the sink with hot water. Toss dishes in as I go. It almost washes itself. Lots can go in the dishwasher. And if I'm having a real chaotic day...that's what kids are for, washing dishes...lol

I Love to bake but I really only do my heavy baking around Christmas.. That makes it all right for my kids to eat it up. that is part of the fun, they can eat it up and not worry because it is Christmas.

Oh yeah, the first thing I do before starting any cooking or baking is get a sink of hot soapy dishwater going, and I wash as I go. The dishwasher fills up to quickly, and I'd rather just wash, dry, and put it away. I don't mind the measuring and stirring at all. I find baking to be relaxing, and it makes the house smell so heavenly. Awwww! I just love the satisfaction of knowing I made it myself too.
