    Default What should I hang

I only have one line outside, and a bit of room in the house for hanging. I live in canada so a load would take all day to dry out there. I have about 3-4 loads every day to do. So should I just fill up my lines with what I can and dry the rest. Or I was thinking I could hang up pants, towels and cloth diapers, things that take long to dry, then I could cut 10-15 mins off my dryer time of each load.

it will be better in the summer when i can dry multiple loads a day.

Stick with the big stuff and the flat stuff - they dry faster and are less effort to hang. It's hard to get pants completely dry at the waistband but sheets, towels and diapers are good, as well as t-shirts. Even if it doesn't dry completely, you can just throw it in the dryer for a few minutes to finish it off at the end of the day.

If I pull stuff out of the dryer ( and it's usually jeans or towels ) that are still a bit damp I lay them on the bed spread out or over the bed post...go in and turn them over once maybe. If I've already stopped the dryer I won't throw them back in for a barely damp.

I find its kinda like cooking: similar sized items/pieces will take the same amount of time to cook.

I'd hang the big bulky stuff - sweaters/sweat shirts/jeans & bulky out on the line. The smaller things in the dryer b/c they will dry evenly and be done at the same time. The other alternative is to start the bulky items in the dryer then finish them off on the line - this gives them a bit of a head start.

I use wooden drying racks in the hallway to hang dry most of my clothes (tops & bottoms) year round since hanging clothes outside sets off my allergies.

I do sheets and pillowcases outside first. They smell so good when you put them on the bed! I'll hang underpants, bras and undershirts. Rags, too. Everything else gets really stiff or doesn't dry completely. If that's the case, a 10 minute spin in the dryer after hanging usually fixes everything.

I hang everything! Mostly indoors. . . I toss a load in to wash while I get ready for work (4:30 AM), then hang the items on hangers, then place the hangers on a retractable line in the spare bedroom (used to put them on spring rods in the doorways or on the shower rod in the bathroom).

So it is realy icy outside right now, so no outside line. But I have been hanging anything that would cause statick cling (dont use softener) things with elastics, to make them last longer, diapers, burp up cothes, rags, disposable diaper liners (if peed on onlythey make two washes this way). I have been trying to wash the pants and towels at the same time. and I have found that I can hang up a lot of stuff on my two shower rods, my hanging rod above the washer (4ft long) if I use clothes hangers. and I put nice ribbon on the window frame in the laundry hall that works great for socks and rags.
I have been able to cut down the dryer time of all loads by 20 mins this way. Doing 5 loads a day, I am saving on a hole load a day, plus the diaper and barn wash at the end of every night that gets hung to dry. I have also noticed that a full load does not even need a full 60 mins in the dryer, I have been over drying everything!

I live in Boston, and I have been hanging things up all year. I put the screws with the circles in the wall and put the bungey(sp) cords on the the end of the lines and attach it. I have a finished basement next to the laundry room. I just take it down when I am not doing laundry. I have 4 lines in my basement. I also run a dehmidifier down stairs. I also have two bars in my laundry room and hang shirts and undergarments on it.I have a big front loader washer and dryer and can hang two loads at a time.

i say NO to sheets and towels outside...allergens..especiallyif you or any family members have allergies of any type.

i hang my more expensive clothing (i use vinegar and 1/2 softener in the washer) and then just fluff on air dry w/ 1/3 of a dryer sheet for 10 minutes.

i do not and will not hang any underpants or dh tshirts. just me i guess....nor would i hang socks.

i fully dry all towels and sheets in the dryer w/ a large beach towel to cut down on drying time and try to do loads in succession so dryer and beach towel are still hot...

denim is washed w/ vinegar so i hang that and then fluff also when done.
