Pulley clotheslines anyone?
I'm wondering if anyone uses a pulley clothesline.
We're building a new deck and I'm considering putting up a pulley clothesline that I could hang things on by standing on the deck. The only place I have to put a clothesline, unfortunately, is above a parking area for our cars, which are a van and a truck, so they're tall. A traditional clothesline with poles for support ends up being low enough that the wires hit the top of the cars when they're parked underneath. Plus the ground slopes in that area, so the lines are too low on one end and so high I can't reach them on the other. It's been fun.
If anyone has a pulley clothesline, could you share your experiences and opinions? I'm very interested! I really like the concept and it seems like a good solution to the problems I've had, but I don't want to trade one set of problems for another, either. I have a pulley clothes line and love it. Mine is from the house to a tree in the yard. I stand on the deck to hang clothes. I have a retaining wall so that the tree is about 6 feet from the ground. I am thinking about putting another one up.

TY. That sounds good. Do you have a good source for the parts? I'm looking at these: Pulley clothesline kit. I haven't had a chance to shop around yet though, to see if I can find a better price.
I guess I need to check Ace Hardware locally, too.

You don't need all of that 70.00
I got mine years ago from wallmarts. I got the 2 pulleys and the hooks. I used regular clothes line. I put a stick in the knot when I tied it and twists it when the line gets loose. I use a cotton line. I know I did not pay over 20 for mine,

Does the line sag much? I hate saggy lines.

I've thought about installing one, as well, mostly because I'm lazy.

It looks like a lot less work than building posts for a conventional line!

I'll be at Lowe's and Walmart tomorrow, so I'm going to look into this idea.
The problem I'm pondering now is how to figure out if the line is level or not. The attachment point on the house will be a lot closer to the ground than the attachment point on the power pole. Torpedo level, maybe.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is the pic of the stick I twist to keep it tight, I have had this line since I moved her 15 years ago. I have changed the clothes line 2,3 times.

Thanks for taking pics! Do you hang the clothes on the bottom line or the top one?
I guess the line wouldn't have to be level, but I'd like it to be. It's going to be between our deck and our lake view, so the neater it can look, the better.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The bottom line is where I hang the clothes. I have been trying to figure out where to hang another but haven't. Good luck.

Researching this has led me to the solution to another problem. I want a place to hang a few things under cover sometimes, so I've been trying to think of a way to have a short line under the roof of our covered deck. It has to be sort of unobtrusive, and it has to be up by the rafters, which unfortunately means I couldn't reach it.
But look what I found! A clothes airer! The perfect solution, and easy to DIY. So I'm going to pick up a couple pulleys for that at Lowe's tomorrow, too. Then all I'll have to do is make a 2x2 frame, screw in some eye screws in appropriate places, and thread clothesline through the eye screws and add rope for the pulleys, and I'll be all set. YEA!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

i love those clothes lines that are hung on pulley's. I see alot of them down in amish country. Usually they hang from the house to the barn. I'd love that setup. There is a hardware store that is about 2 hours from me called Lehman's. I'm sure they have a website. Thye are situated down in amish country..and carry alot of things for that way of life. (they have a full room of oil lamps)~VERY COOL ITEMS~!
