    Default How much line?

    Hi everyone, I'm new here.
We are a family of 2 adults, a toddler and a baby. We are moving next week and I really want to start line drying our clothes. We want to use as little electricity as possible.
So my question is, about how many feet of line do you need for a load of laundry? Anyone have some suggestions on how much we should get?
    Thanks in advance!

Most outside clothes lines I have experience with had posts about 10 feet apart with 3-4 lines a piece.

In my case, when we could line dry, one load would take up one and a half lines of a 4 line clothes line. Our washer was large capacity.

Don't forget, you may want to hang more than one load in a day and the first load may not be quite dry (although in Texas, one load may dry before the next is out of the washer ). Also, sheets and blankets can require more room or have to be spread across 2-3 lines to give the proper amount of air flow to dry them.

~Our lines were 15 feet long and 4 deep. I could hang two large capacity loads on the four lines(60 linear feet of line)except whites. We use hankies, cloth napkins and cleaning cloths as well as towels, so all those little things took up a lot of linear feet. They also dried fast though.
Have you considered hooking up a line with a pulley from your back door to another structure or a tree? I wish I had this setup when my babies were little and I hung laundry. I didn't want to leave them alone in the house or take them outside every time I needed to hang laundry so I couldn't be as efficient about it as I wanted. The pulley system lets you hang laundry from your back step. This is the way the Amish do it.
If I didn't already have T style posts and laundry lines installed at this property I would have put one of these in.

Thanks ladies, I don't think I can add a T post because it's a rental home. I have a patio that I think we can put a couple retractable lines...or maybe put a line around the posts? We have a lot of little things too. Diapers, cloth paper towels, etc.

One place I lived at had an attic. There were clothes lines hung. In the summer the clothes dried really quickly. Although it was terribly hot up there.
