Default Describe Laundry Day At Your House

I do not have a set laundry day. Usually I'll throw a load of clothes in the washer early in the morning. I hook all bras and pin all socks together at the toes with safety pins to prevent them from getting lost. I use Tide detergent with bleach that I buy on sale and purchase with coupons. I generally use liquid detergent forgetting that its much cheaper to buy powdered. I now make my own Spray N Wash . I use cold water to wash in and I use my electric dryer to dry. I place half a dryer sheet on top of the clothes before I turn it on. I do not fold and put away my laundry. When dh is home (he's a long distance truck driver) he gets fed up with me and will go the basement and fold all of the clothes.

I know there are lots of different ways people approach their laundry, some make their own detergents and hang their clothes to dry. I'm curious as to how other people approach this.

I don't have a laundry day. I do my laundry one basket at a time.
When I remember LOL, I go down to the basement & throw a load in the washer or dryer (if it's nice, I hang them out - oddly enough the laundry gets done quicker that way lol).

After they are dry I bring the basket into the living room, where it gets folded. It may not get put away (my least fave chore) but it's clean & folded.

Laundry day at my house is whatever day I have the time to do laundry.

I bring all the laundry baskets from our bedrooms downstairs to the basement. Then, I separate all of the whites out and put them in a pile on the floor. Then, I start the cold water, put in the detergent and cram the washer as full of dirty clothes as I can. When it's done, mine and Julia's clothes get hung on the line. Rob's and Patricks go in the dryer. When all colors are done, I start the hot water, put in the detergent and bleach and in go the whites. They get half dried in the dryer, half on the line. I usually do about 5 loads of wash and 2 loads in the dryer. Everything else is hung.

Then, everything comes off the line or out of the dryer, back in the baskets, and upstairs to our rooms until I get the time to put it all away. (The worst part of the job.)

Laundry day at my house is continual. I take a basket down and wash, dry and set it at the bottom of the stairs for DH to carry up. This is where the entire process breaks down as DH can walk over it for DAYS before he carries it up and I can fold it and put it away.

Laundry for us is kind of spread out. We use the dryer to warm up the apartment, so we kind of hoard our dirty clothes til the really cool evenings and then toast up the apartment a bit with the dryer.

I do laundry whenever I get a chance. A lot of the time it seems like I do most of it on the weekend since I work during the week. I'm really trying to hang everything to dry down in the basement so since I have limited racks, I try to do a load daily or every couple days. I gather up all the dirty laundry, take it downstairs, then I sort the colors, and start washing. I don't usually immediately fold it when its done. I fold it/ iron whenever it is convenient.

Seems like lots of people does laundry in their basements. Sounds nice, having space, and place to put lines to dry. I have a small area off the kitchen for a laundry room, I use it to store food, as well.

Almost embarrassed to say, everyone does their own laundry here. In the beginning of our marriage I complained heavily to dh bout his laundry (leaving belts on pants, socks in balls, stuff in pockets, etc.) that one day he offered to do his own, I took him up on it and he doesn't mind at all. Dd got to where she was leaving stuff in her pockets pretty bad and ruining the rest of our clothes that at the same time I told her she'd have to do her own as well.

So, when my laundry basket gets full and no one else has got laundry going I do mine in one day, usually in two loads, bout once every two weeks. I've been line drying my jeans and shirts outside when it's nice. I also get the 'extra' like kitchen towels, mine and dh's bathroom linens and mine and dh's bedroom linens. Dd takes care of her own bathroom and bedroom linens.

Laundry-wise, I feel like I got it made. It's my least favorite chore of all!! I detest putting clothes away. Now I just gotta worry bout my own.

    Bring on them baby steps...
    Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
    Step 5: grown child
    Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
    Step 7: ahhhh....

I sort out our clothes by colors (lights, darks, things that might bleed, whites, towels and jeans) and do it accordingly, leaving the towels and jeans for last. I usually do about 4-5 loads per week, sometimes 3-4 loads on one day and then one later in the week. I wash in cold the things that aren't very dirty, use my homemade liquid laundry soap and dollar general spot remover and downy. Sometimes I need to use oxyclean for kitchen towels that aren't white, I bleach the whites (which include lots of underwear for me and socks) and will use dry bleach if my colors are looking a bit dull. I use my dryer mostly but don't always dry things to completely dry. I hang and fold most things except towels immediately. I may not put things up for a day or 2 but do like to clear out the laundry room so I'll eventually put it all up. I can remember when my 3 dk's were at home I did 3 loads of laundry every single day. Ugh, I don't miss that part of them being grown and gone.

laundry at our house has become a nearly everyday thing..but absolutely no Sundays............we have one still in diapers and a few little ones that have accidents in the middle of the night and 2 older kids that work & are always in need of clean work pants...so I really need to stay on top of all of it. diapers and ladies personals are washed in one load w/bleach (I leave the ladies personals in the washer for multiple washings w/ the next loads thereafter)....then the colored clothes, then the whites. If I have mountains of laundry that include jeans & blankets/sheets, and there is no room for these items to add w/ the colored or white clothes, then they get to be in their own load if it is quite a bit........everything is washed in cold water and hung out to dry if weather allows, otherwise I have to use the dryer.

I have a separate laundry room so if anything needs soaking I use oxybleach for them and they sit in a bucket in the sink until I'm ready to wash.

I try to wash one day a week but as it's our wet season, I find I get one load on the line and it rains, so I stop. When it's not raining I hope to have either Sunday or Monday as my washing day. I always iron on Thursday because I work Friday and Saturday and I want my clothes ironed and looking their best when I'm at our store. I only wear cotton or linen so everything needs ironing. Ditto for DH, all his shirts are cotton or linen. Some of his trousers are wool sp they dry and looked pressed.

For the actual washing, I use homemade detergent and usually cold water. Whenever I bring something into the house, like dishtowels and cleaning cloths from the store, or thirft store finds, I always oxybleach them. I have this thing about our germs being "good" and all outside germs being "bad" so all incomings get the treatment.

I sort lights from darks and generally wash towels and sheets together. Sometime I use vinegar in the rinse, usually I use nothing. I always hang my washing on the outside line. If it's raining I stop washing. I haven't used my dryer for a long long time.

At our house I do laundry daily. DH does help a lot.

I use a no name brand detergent, ammonia and vinegar to wash our laundry. I hang dry our clothes/towels and linen outside (weather permitting) or I machine dry on rainy/cloudy days.

Once the laundry is dried and folded - I ask the kids and DH to collect their separate piles to put away.

I like to iron in the evenings when the family’s asleep. I put on a video (usually an old classic) and iron the night away.

while we are on the topic of laundry, can anyone please give me recipes for homemade laudry soap. right now we use the huge 300oz of sun liquid laundry soap for 5.68(wm) and if that is not available, we use the 300oz extra for 5.88. if someone has a soap recipe that would be cheaper than these two brands, i would really appreciate your sharing.

On this website under Menus there is a section for homemade cleaners which should have the recipe you are looking for.
