How Much Laundry Do You Do A Year????
After reading that the Dugger family does 600 loads of laundry a month, I began wondering just how many loads I do in a year.So starting January 1st of last year, I kept a record of every load that I did.
A little background for those who are not familiar with my family-
We have 10 children who all live with us.
4 of the older ones have jobs and I have to wash uniforms.
2 are bed wetters & tend to generate more wet blankets in the winter months.
3 of the kids are 6 & under(6,4,17 months) & they make alot of messes.
The rest of us don't do anything out of the ordinary to spike the amount of laundry unnessesarily.lol
So a total of 12 people live here(dh & myself included).
So...after reading about the Duggers laundry, I couldn't believe that they would do 7,200 loads a year (600 a month) - they have only 7 more people in their house than we do- I decided to see if we came anywhere close to that number.
Not a chance
I washed 812 loads last year total. All loads were full and washed in cold water. The most I did was 72 loads Jan. 07, then it ranged in the 50-60's afterwards.....I'm still trying to figure out how to do less.
How much laundry do you do in a month/year?

Well, now that it's just dh and I, not that much. Maybe 4-5 loads a week? Usually darks, lights, bedding, towels. I wash bedding and towels in hot water.
But...I'm one of those sick people who loves doing laundry!Stinkbug

Probably 5 loads a week or so, so 260/yr.
7200 loads a year is 19.72 loads a day. Gosh, that's a lot of laundry.

I used to do 2 to 3 loads a day. Starting this week I cracked the whip on my family to dry their towels and re-use to generate less laundry. The amount of towel I was washing a day was ridiculous!!! I want to have it down to 1 load every day or less. You have peaked my curiousity with this post. Since we just started 2008 I will keep count and see how many I do this month and so on.

I think I wash clothes plus towels 2 x a week
probably do an extra 6 loads a month washing blankets, etc
So i'd say I do about 12 loads a month

dh, myself. thats it.
four loads a week
at 52 weeks
makes 208 loads a year.
even at that, four loads a week is a lot for just the two of us. im going to work on getting that down a bit. thanks for posting this. i never would have thought of it out in these terms.
we have a really TINY washer and no dryer. well we have a dryer but the electric wiring to it doesnt work properly. *shakes fist* fixer upper still in progress.Last edited by latierra84; 01-02-2008 at 05:11 PM. Reason: eta

We are a family of 6. I do at least one load of laundry every day plus bedding. So we probably do 10-12 loads per week. Anywhere between 500-600 per year.
I can't even imagine 20 loads of laundry per day. Even with ...how many are they up to now? Even 20 people couldn't generate 20 loads per day. There's no way. Not unless they wear 2-3 layers of clothes per person
Unless they cloth diaper & wash their own....

~I love your scientific approach! A gal after my own heart! As for me, I averaged 30 loads a month up until 5months ago when ds was completely toilet trained and dd switched to all disposable dipes. Now I do about 20 a month. So 2007 was about 310 loads. I get about 90 loads out of each bottle of detergent and I used less than 4 bottles in 2007.~

How many loads
I have been keeping track since Sept. 9, 2007. This is when I started a new 300 oz bottle of Tide. I am keeping track of how many loads I can get out of this huge bottle. The bottle says it does 84 loads. (have only used a 1/3 of it so far, I have a front loader washer.)
As of today I have done 128 loads since Sept 9. So that figures out to around 32 loads a month or 1 load a day.
I used to do laundry 2 times a week 3-4 loads. I have found that I can save about 2 loads a week if I do it only 1 time a week 5-6 loads. I just do bigger loads.Debra

~I wanted to add that maybe the Duggers are so ship-shape that they never leave dirty laundry sitting. It's may be part of their routine to wash all the laundry every day even if each load isn't a full load.~

I believe that I average 700 loads a year for 5 of us. I messed up years ago when our washer went dead, cash was tight so we bought a large washer instead of the ol kind I had, the extra large one. So, with 2 adult males over 6 ft. 3 in. and me and DD #2 over 5 ft. 8 in. and other DD is 5. ft. 5.in. we fill up a large washer quick with 1 pair of pants each. Ended up costing me mroe over the years. How stupid was I???
