December Needle Arts Challenge
November is almost up!! Time to start thinking about the December challenge!
For those of you who whined about a theme in November (
), you can make the challenge whatever you want. No theme necessary - just let us know what project you are hoping to complete.
For those of you who want a theme, this month's SUGGESTED theme is related to the act of giving. Make something you intend to give away. This includes something for your pets, who often get left out of the spirit of charity. They give to us all year long, so maybe you can give something back. A dog sweater, a catnip filled kitty toy, a new cover for your bird's cage. Or you can make something for your local humane society.
Not into animals? You can make a preemie cap and or blanket to give to your local hospital. Or a nice throw to give to a cancer center or senior center, so people can have something warm to put over their laps. I am not a religious person, but I love the concept of a prayer shawl. Think of who you are making your project for. Make it and give it in the spirit of love, charity, and humanity. You get the idea.
It is the end of the year, so let's earn some karma for 2009, people!!Last edited by madhen; 11-26-2008 at 11:34 PM.

I am totally into this challenge. I plan on making a latch hook rug for my DF. It is rather large (don't remember the dimensions) and this has been in the works since before Halloween but I just now am getting around to being able to do it. This gift is for his Yule/Christmas present and it is a face of a lion.

I'll finish the black "batman" hat for my youngest nephew. I'm thinking of writing one of the local hospitals to see if they accept preemie hats, as we have one of the largest NICUs in the region. I'd like to make something for my furbabies, but I'm not sure what yet. I'll get back to you.

If any of you have any favourite charities that you want to recommend, I'd appreciate it. I still haven't decided what to make in December.
I *did* finish through row 15 of the latch hook rug!

Found this pattern on "Hugs for Homeless Animals". I think even with my limited knitting abilities, I might be able to do this!

And my local county shelter participates in the "snuggle" project (and is 15 minutes down the road from me)!!

I've quantified my challenge quota in my signature. Five (more) prs of mittens and three (more) hats for the mitten tree at our local Credit Union. I already have 2 prs of mittens and one hat. I only have until December 12th to get them to the CU before they hand them all out to local families in need.
I'm also going to finish the scarf I started for my Poppy for Christmas. I know my list is short, but it gives me time to work on other projects I will inevitably get drawn to casting on during the month lol.Total Debt Paid Off $92,234

VanViCam, that is a cool stocking! I am very interested in how the project goes. I see these advertised in the Mary Maxim catalogue I get, but they always seem a little daunting to me!
Do you need a sewing machine to complete them?

No madhen, you don't need a sewing machine. The kit comes with everthing you need (including the needles, thread, sequins, and WONDERFUL instructions). I do think that it will take me a little while. I am hoping that working on the project will keep me out of the stores spending money!
