Quilt block challenge of the week
You know, Homesteadmamma's post commenting on her challenge to herself to make 100 blocks one year got me thinking...
Is there anyway we could do a similar challenge on this board? Only maybe do a block a week. And just take photos to show each other what we've done? And, eventually sew our own blocks into a quilt...
Not sure where we'd get the block ideas from. Maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe we can make whatever blocks we want and just share what we've done with others. Or we could be more structured and all do the same block.
What do you all think? I'm thinking this would be a good way to force myself to learn something new in quilting...2012 Challenges

Why not have a quilt block chalenge? We can post how many blocks we want to get done each month. I think it's a great idea.
I think it should probably be blocks from everywhere. That way we get to see way more blocks than everyone doing the same blocks from a site or book, kwim.
I'm definitely in.Last edited by homesteadmamma; 02-10-2009 at 02:06 PM.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I like doing whatever block you want and sharing it on a weekly/monthly basis.

Jean, I'm going ahead with this. I plan on making 3 blocks this month. I said I would start anything until I'm finished quilting all my UFO's, however this is a challenge and I like a challenge.
How many are you going to do?

I'm going to try for a block a week. I'm just trying to figure things out here...so I'm working on simple four patch blocks to start. I even know what fabric I'm going to use!

I'm in for next month, I'm going to be gone for a week this month and will not be able to get one pulled together. My daughter and I did a block of the month at a fabric store here and it was great. I'd love to have the motivation to do at least one a month.

Here's the book I'm getting my block patterns from. I picked it up years ago at a secondhand book store for a few bucks...

Here's the fabric I'm using...

Here's my first pattern...real simple...

I'll post a pic when I'm done.Last edited by peanut; 02-11-2009 at 12:45 PM.

I would love to do this challenge....really, I would, but I can't, no, I just can't, I won't, no, no, I won't, I repeat I will not do this challenge.......

My 'personal' challenge this year is to not start 'anything' new until the way-too-many projects I have already started are finished. I'm making headway and am getting ready to sit down and finish sewing the binding on dd's quilt started who knows when.
So, no, I can't, I won't do this challenge............not yet anyway.

LOL! I hear you...I went through the house late last night and came up with 32 projects I've started and not completed. I'm sorting through that mess right now. My initial goal for this year was to finish a project a month. I finished 3 in January. It looks like I'll have to keep that pace up if I want to complete them all by the end of December!

Here is my first block. It's taken from Quilts from the Heart by Karin Renaud. The title of the block is Arkansas Crossroads
The first picture shows you what is used in the block. You need 3 1/2 inch squares along with 2 inch squares. The picture shows you how it works up. The other picture is the block finished.
