Hi everyone,
I'm curious as to people's thoughts and opinions on Oprah's topic of polygamy today. I thought it was very interesting and wonder what you thought of it if you watched.
polygamy is not something I think I could be a part of
but I can kind of see how it could work for some people
it's not something that I think is WRONG persay
so long as all parties are consenting adults etc etc
I didn't watch it. Yes, I guess in theory poligamy would be ok. It just seems to me like all the poligamist people we see on TV are uneducated, brainwashed women and teenagers forced to marry old, icky men. It's not like Big Love, that's for sure. I'd be for poligamy if it was like it was with Bill, Barb, Nicki and Margene! You would ALWAYS have a good babysitter, someone to cook dinner with, and if you were first wife, you would have a second and thrid wife to take up the slack!
I think that as long as it is consenting between all parties it can be a good and practical situation. For some it would bring security progress trust and have a firm foundation in communication. For others it would bring insecurity, envy, distrust and communication may not exist. So each individual needs to make up their own mind to enter into a polygamy situation as an educated decision made by mature adults. As for me, I'm with Grandma Lewis.
I would not go for the situation. I will not tolerate my husband sharing income with another woman. I don't want to deal with lady drama either.Several men would not be bad, but with my luck they would be slobs. To each his own.
I do not normally watch Oprah unless I see a preview that catches my eye. Today's show did just that.
Polygamy is something I just cannot get my mind to comprehend. The show was very sad to me. I feel sorry for the children who don't know that there is more to life than to be in that situation. My heart breaks when I hear the news stories about the 13 and 14 yr. old girls who are pregnant. I understand it is their religion and their beliefs just as mine are to me but for the life of me cannot even begin to fathom living like they do.
I'm sure many think the same thing about me and my beliefs being a Southern Baptist! The only thing I can say is my faith and my beliefs are how I live my life and, I guess, the way they are living theirs!
The jokes are funny, but I just finished watching it. Thank Gawd for DVR. lol
The sad thing is the under age children that are forced into marriage and raped. When the story first broke out I was amazed that the women didn't seem to have much emotion in their voice, almost like robots, and all spoke in that same tone.
The lady in the end of the show that just got out of it four months ago with 7 children showed the same thing. It was sad that she almost did not know that expressing your feelings and talking is okay and never was exposed to tv and the actual world. Glad she is doing good supporting her kids out of the years of the Cult she came out of.
I think the biggest thing that I find the most facinating about the people from the compunds is how amazing it is to find people who are so sheltered in today's world. The discussion about what they were taught in school was interesting as well...I had always thought that it was their own curriculum.
I just find the whole thing interesting from a sociological perspective. And I DO LOVE BIG LOVE I feel sorry for the children who were taken by PCS as they have probably been told by their parents that the people in the outside world are evil and will harm them. Anyway, I was just curious as to what other people had thought. As for polygamy myself, my husband has enough trouble dealing with one wife....I think more would send him over the edge hahaha
About polyandry, I wasn't joking. It makes much more sense for 2 men sharing 1 wife and earning a living to have oh, say 18 children, than 1 man with 2 wives to try to support 36 children. (to use a rather extreme number of children example)
If one of the husbands (using a 2 husband model) gets a divorce then he would have to pay 50% of what a single father pays in child support. All children would be considered shared children, no wrangling over who dat baby daddy is. ( Family names would pass through the female which also makes more sense.)
Heck if it were legal I'd have two husbands in a heartbeat!
(PS) If any woman wants to help wash stinky socks, deal with skidmarks and help out with an elderly, crippled invalid I'd say "yes" to an extra wife. But 2 husbands still makes more sense than multiple wives. JMHO
Oh yeah the $ex thing. Honestly one woman can wear out several men and still be good to go. Men just hate to admit that. Also if a man is really, truly great in the sack he usually doesn't have to beg for it.
A lotta women fake enthusiasm just to get it over with, but a really great male lover usually isn't having to beg for anything except some rest! JMHO
I don't think to many men would go for the polyandry thing. There would be to much alfa-dogness going on:sigh: But it would be kind of cool to have 2 dh's to spoil me! I could handle the other part quite nice:smirk: But really, Having been in a controlling cult for 4 years and leaving I kind of know what those women are going threw. The spiritual manipulation in a cult is very powerful. I feel so sorry for them. I mean how many women would share there love and time and intimacy with their dh with another woman. I would have to poison her! :shhh:
