700 Club make me sooooo mad sometimes
I guess this thread is pretty much for the evangelical christians but who ever cares to give their opinion go for it! ( Like I could stop you anyway) Okay here's my problem. I watch 700 club, CBN, Pat Robertson whatever you wanna call it fairly regularly. I've noticed that every episode has one story about how someone was blessed in over abudnance financially because they gave to CBN. And the other day they were having a fund raising and acutally insinuated that the way to financial prosperity is by giving to CBN. If you don't give to CBN then GOD won't bless you. Also it distrubs me how Pat seems to have the direct hook up with God and he knows everything.
Now flip side my local Christian Radio Station has their yearly fundraiser. They flat out just ask for the money. They don't promise anything miraculous is going to happen. They don't use emotional black mail to guilt you into giving. They specifically say "Don't take away your tithe from your home church. Give what extra you can."
Sure they have people call in and tell how the station has touched their lives and yes individuals give challenges for members of their churches or communities to call in during a specific hour to reach a goal. But it's much more in a spirit of fun and rallying together to make something happen.
So I ask all of you where does this idea that if you give "God is going to give you money" come from. Don't you think this is sort of a misuse of power?

I think anything can be taken to an extreme...good or bad. I do believe that if you give it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. But some pull on emotions and greed. I think a person should give cheerfully with a happy heart what GOD prompts them to give (talking offerings here, not tithe...which I believe should be given to the local church), not what they are talked/guilted/greeded into giving. The whole prosperity thing got taken to an extreme and some are still in the extreme mode. I do believe God wants us to be blessed, but the blessing comes as a result of our heart attitude and motives as well as our giving, and many of the greatest blessings are not always monetary.

It is odd that when you do give because your heart said to do it... it will come back to you.
My beliefs are held in Karma. Rather than a god. But I think it's all the same.. someway.
I used to watch those shows looooong ago. Until I noticed that I was living in a rat hole and HE was living in prosperity. And his income came from .... me. you. my neighbor. That was back when Tammy Fay was around. Eeeee gads. It didn't sit right with me.
I don't care that the 'message' was good- I just had a problem with preying on the vulnerability of the feeble.
I really like your christian station... just ask for it. I mean.. really. We all know that places of worship are nonprofit. Your pastor must be paid too, the electric, etc. - so just ask. If you need a new roof.. say it. "we need a new roof... can anyone up the ante?"

As a Christian believer, I must agree that the TV program you watch is not using the Word correctly. I have not watched this program, so I may be in over my head in writing this. God promises that He will bless our giving, but I don't find in the Word that He promises to make us rich. The TV program seems to be misusing and abusing Scripture.
Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.
Financial:
Debt free, hoping to stay that way!
MY BLOG: glorybug.wordpress.com
1. Keep on writing.
2. Get some balance in my life.
3. Lose weight. Hopefully 5# this year. (9.5 pounds right now! Yay, Me!!)
4. Continue to be looking for how God wants to use me this year.

You need to stop listening to word of faith teachers. They are false and it is not really even biblical. Stay away from TBN and all those kinds of teachers. It will only weaken your faith. I could list all those names like Pat, but I won't.lol

I used to see the 700 club on occasion, but I stopped watching. Pat Robertson has gotten himself into hot water many times by saying things that were...to put it nicely...unkind. I believe that God wants us to give Him 10% of our income. I tithe because GOD tells me to, not because a talk show host does. Saying that God won't bless you if you don't give your money to them is ridiculous. What about all the people who were on the Earth before there was TV? What about life before the 700 club was every put on television? Surely God has blessed people in the past, and He will continue to do so. If it's true that P.R. said that, he should be ashamed of himself.
I could go into this much further, but I'll restrain myself, :-)

Pat Roberston = Jerry Falwell.

They do/did great on spreading false faith, false prophecy, pure hatred, bible taken out of context, bigots, self righteous rich people, that don't have a clue under the umbrella that they live in. It's people like this that make Christians look like nuts.....
I thought it would be way cool if Benny Hinn, Pat Robinson, Jerry Falwell,(rip) Oral Roberts with the big million dollar praying hands in Tulsa, bishop TD Jakes, Rod Parsley, Creflo Dollar, Joyce Meyers, etc, etc, etc,.....
Would just for one moment walk away from their cozy mansions and helped pulled bodies that were trapped during 9/11, fly to New Orleans, and Thailand, Burma, and China... Then I might see my faith back in them..
Yeah...

That's exactly how I feel. When it gets to the point that people are using their political views and using the name of God to spread hate, I lose interest. These are the same type people who send out mass e-mails saying that so-and-so is the antichrist, or muslim, or whatever other story they like. It's one thing to say that you don't agree with someone's political or religious views, but to state your opinion as fact and then spread it like wildfire is another thing. How is that Christlike?

yep that.
I haven't seen them help in (god's) disasters- but I would leave my rat hole to help the town with coordinating blood donation in a disaster.
I wish more people would see that- but I think that people who give to TV evangalists are those that are easily influenced and looking for salvation.
The rest of us are going to heaven. lol!
If money is the root of all evil - and we are to give them our money... then who's the evil one now?

Actually, the bible says the love of money is the root of evil (1 Tim. 6:10). It's a heart attitude about money and what we do with it. Jesus said, "To whom much has been given, much will be required."
It's so sad people fall prey to greedy televangelists. They're following a man, not God. (I'm not lumping all TV ministers together. I have respect for Billy Graham.) Christians are called to be discerning, and to compare a pastor's teachings to the bible. I remember when Oral Roberts declared that God told him to raise 8 million dollars or else God would "take him home". It just made me sick people fell for that. What a terrible representation of "Christianity". No wonder some people hate us. Jesus rebuked the merchants in the temple for using the house of God for their own financial gain. I see these televangelists as no different.
How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

QFT. I grew up with Jack and Rexella(sp). I'm still here and pretty old. lol
I like sound people like Billy Graham ,Charles Stanley and Max Lacudo. (sp) Not sure much that is out there now. Not a christian so I don't really follow. These are people that leave a positive note in my brain. The rest have their name spread all over in a bad way..

Yes, yes! I am just an average person here with a big heart. I don't find one with them..I haven't seen them help in (god's) disasters- but I would leave my rat hole to help the town with coordinating blood donation in a disaster.
I wish more people would see that- but I think that people who give to TV evangalists are those that are easily influenced and looking for salvation.

Jumping in a little late here. I used to watch all of the shows and eventually had to quit. It was creating too much confusion in me. So, I don't watch anymore, but I do know that as a christian, I am to take what I hear from the one claiming to be from God and line it up with the bible. If that can't be sone then it's not God's Word. Incidently, God's Word never changes, so I don't worry too much. If I am going to give it's going to be close to home.
