A ? about DVR's and Tivo
We are about to upgrade our satellite programming pkg. (Gripey got an hd tv) and I'm wondering.....Should we go with a dvr? We currently have a vcr that will record and take out the commercials if we want it to, well it actually fast forwards through them. With the dvr we'd have to leave a phone line connected to the receiver all of the time to get the $5/mo. fee waved for use of it. Our phone line would require some change in location....... is the reason I ask. I have a feeling that it's like upgrading internet, once you go there you can never go back to dial up.....
. Input please.......? TIA

I have the DVR with Directv and I love it, it cost 5.99 per month, and I just hit one button to record. I can set it to record just one or every new espisode, etc. And playback is easy too. I find it to be easier than getting tapes ready.
The only thing is that it is hooked up to phone line constantly and even when it is off, it still connects and upgrades as needed, which is quite often.

I have a DVR, but I miss my Tivo. We switched from Directv to Verizon Fios so my old Tivo isn't compatible. It's worth the extra money in monthly service to me. To some it's not.
By the way, we've never left a phone line attached to it. Only to turn it on initially, but we never order pay per views, so we disconnected right away.Erika

I absolutely love our DVR. I just like being able to watch my shows whenever I want without having to think about tapes. I just program my DVR to record every new episode then when I'm ready to watch tv I just go through the list of recordings. Paying for satellite would only be worth it to me if I had a DVR. I won't plan my life around a TV program. If I can't watch it when I want, then I won't watch it at all.

We have a DVR and I LOVE it. I am somewhat technically challenged and even I can record a program, play back, set up for series recordings, etc. I use it all the time and watch my programs when it is more convenient for me ~ as in very early in the morning when everyone is still sleeping...........

I would cry with life without DVR. It is so easy to use. I record so many things and watch when I want.
