My Sister's Keeper
By Jodi Picoult
I've read one of her books before and wasn't as enthralled but this one kept me glued a few weeks back. Here's the cover blurb.
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia, that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate - a life role that she has never challenged....until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truely is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister - and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. A provocative novel that rates some important ethical issues, MySister's Keeper is the storey of one family's struggle for survival at all human costs and a stunning moral parable for all time.
If you check it out be prepared for an emotional ride.

I agree, this was a totally emotional ride. The ending (which I won't give away) totally floored me. I can honestly say, I haven't read a book with this much feeling in a very long time!

I loved that book. Jodi Picoult is a funny (ie interesting) author. Her work is very varied. My Sister's Keeper was wonderful, but I HATED Songs of the Humpback Whale, and I couldn't get into Plain Truth. Even Salem Falls was sort of lame. However, 19 Minutes was great and so was the one about teen suicide (I think it was called The Pact.) So, I wish I could say I loved all her work, but some of it is boring. The stuff that is good is outstanding.

I hardly ever remember much about books that I have read, but I sure remember this one. The ending really sticks with me. I'm looking forward to the movie.

This is the only book of hers I could get through...the others I would start, put down, pick it back up to try and read again...ended up taking them back to the library.
I know a lot of people like her work, and that's why I've given each book a chance....can't do it anymore."We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

I never read this one for two reasons. First of all my sil told me ALL about it and basically spoiled it for me. Secondly, it seemed to be emotionally disturbing, and I don't do well with those kinds of books.
I did like a couple of her other books though. And today I started A Change of Heart, which looks like a tear-jerker, but at least I don't know EVERYTHING that happens in it

I tried to read it....I really tried. It was just depressing and disturbing....I just don't need that in my brain.

Oops, the title of the book is Change of Heart, and while I really enjoy the way she writes, it's definitely a tear jerker.

It was a beautiful book, and I cried my eyes out. What an amazing writer - it would rip out m soul to create characters like that.
