    Question Do you find...

that you prefer either male or female authors over the other?

I find that I prefer female authors over male authors and I have no idea why. I keep a list of books that I have read over the past year or so, and when I look back on it, 99% of them are female authors. I never realized that I did that. I pick up books by male authors and most of the time I find that I don't like the writing and i put them down and pick up a different book.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their reading choices or am I the odd duck?

You are not odd. I find that it depends on the genre. Non-fiction and science fiction authors I enjoy tend overwhelmingly to be male. The "feel good" novels (international and domestic) I like best tend to be written by women.

    You're not an "odd duck".

Except for my die-hard favorites I think I read more by female authors than male. I never thought of it before you posted about it too

I think I cycle depending on what phase I'm in with my reading. If I'm doing the crime thriller type I tend to read male authors such as Grisham, Patterson, Sanford. If I'm in my fantasy reading, werewolves/vampires kind of stuff, the authors I prefer are usually female such as Patricia Briggs and Laural K. Hamilton.
