Any Terry Pratchett Discworld fans?
I'm just starting to re-read (yet again) Guards! Guards! It's one of my favorites. I was just wondering if any of you are Discworld junkies like I am? It has to be one of the funniest, most creative series on the planet. At least in my opinion....

Nope, never heard of him.

(Oh wait, I think I have every single book, the art collection, the guides, and oh yeah, all of the same books on audio CD...)

I've read a few of them. Hogfather has become my holiday favorite and I really enjoy the movie.
I have also listened to excerpts from most all of the books... 'cause its a long drive to visit the in-laws.Last edited by Ceashels; 07-25-2008 at 10:56 PM.

Greebo, you wouldn't by chance be related to Nanny Ogg's cat, would you?
I've haven't seen the Hogfather movie. I need to watch it some time.Last edited by dcompton; 07-25-2008 at 11:00 PM.

Meow!
I was really impressed with the quality of Hogfather the movie. They did a really good job sticking to the book as much as possible.
I wasn't sure how well it would translate, but ceashels understood some of the parts that I thought wouldn't translate well, so they did a great job.
Now you'll have to excuse me - my morphogenic field is destablizing and I always have to revert to cat form to sleep you know.

T.P. has a new novel out in UK, coming out in US in October. Kid's book, "Nation". I dunno if it's a DW book or not, but it's on my MUST BUY list.

Count me in as a fan. I can't wait for his new book either. Nation is not a discworld book but it sounds like a great one. I will be purchasing it when it is released here in the states also.

I've loved his discworld based kids books - The Amazing Maurice brings ... ok i'll admit it - brings tears to my eyes each time I read the scene with Maurice and OUR FAVORITE CHARACTER ...

I just recently read The Wee Free Men and Hat Full of Sky for the first time. They were great fun. I need to read the Maurice book again. I'll be looking forward to the new one too.
How could YOU KNOW WHO not be everyone's favorite character?
I was thinking about who else were favorite characters. The list got preposterously long for a "favorite" characters. There's Captain Carrot and Cheery Littlebottom and Otto and Vimes and, oh, oh, Detritus, and Vetenari, and, well, about half of them are favorite characters. I guess that's redefining "favorite" but they are all so wonderful. Lady Sybil, Mr Tulip (I think it was him) with his potato, Susan, Mistress Weatherwax, the gargoyles, Angua, all the golems, the dead pharaoh in Pyramids...Donna

*AHEM* If you're going to name favorite characters...

*meow*
I don't try to have favorites anymore in the Discworld. I have series I like and dislike. I dislike the wizards (especially Rincewind). I like all the others.

I like the wizards when they have smaller roles to play in novels, and they're ok in Hogfather, but I don't like the Rincewind books either. It's taken time and several re-readings of things, but I've come to like Ridcully. And love the Librarian, but then, I work in a library, so I'm prejudiced.
Oh, and another favorite character - Greebo! How could I have forgotten the inimitable Greebo? And I think of the goddess Anoia on a daily basis.Donna
