Thumbs up Is anyone watching the Secret Millionaire?

Dh loves this show, so I have been watching it. I really thought the premise of the show was pretty dumb until I started watching it.

For those who haven't seen it, they take these millionaires, give them $110 dollars and a place to live. They take away their cars, nice clothes, jewelry, etc. and leave them in poverty stricken areas to survive and meet people who deserve a helping hand.

This last week they had a couple who were self-made millionaires and dropped them off in a really poor neighborhood. I think they were in East L.A. They dropped them off at a tiny house, with barred windows in a neighborhood with tons of police presents. As they were driving in, they witnessed a drug bust with cops arresting tons of people.

The couple was scared to leave their house. But the first night they were there, a women knocked on their door, gave them a housewarming plant and offered to take them on a walk around the neighborhood to meet people (they were there under the premise of being new to the neighborhood). They were shocked at the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone in the community.

They met a woman who held a weekly meeting for grieving women whose husbands, sons, nephews etc, had been killed by local violence. They met a women who ran a halfway house for women just out of prison and they met another woman who ran a stable in the middle of the city, to keep kids out of trouble.

It was amazing watching this couple, who lived in a gated community and essentially cut themselves off from their neighbors see the amazing things that come out of poverty and necessity. They were shocked at how these people survived by coming together. They really preferred that community to their own.

They then turned around and gave each of these three women $50K of their own money and even gave one woman a car.

It makes me realize how much people come together when they need help. It renews my faith that when it is necessary, a community can come together and fill gaps in the system, without thinking about themselves.

Just curious if anyone else has seen it and what they think!

We saw the 2 hour pilot. We find the show to be very touching, and its interesting to compare how different millionaires make their decisions.

In the first ep., the father son combo (father is a high powered attorney) gave money to individuals who needed help. They gave fish to people who were hungry. Good - but I was thinking, "that won't help for long", to be honest.

The second ep, the couple was in Louisiana, and THEY sought out people who were helping others. A pastor running a volunteer program, a couple running a food bank, and a coach. That couple not only helped people who were teaching others how to fish, but they gave *way* more - $100,000 each. I liked them a LOT.

Haven't seen the latest yet, but its on the TiVo waiting.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

It's on Fox, on Wednesday nights, I think. All I know is that it is on right before Bones!

Another TV show that has me in tears by the end, geesh! I love it. I've watched 5 episodes so far with DH.

You know it was funny the one that we watched last night was Gurbakshs' my hubby made the comment that he was "cheap" he gave away a total of $90,000.00 to 4 different people/organizations on the show. Well I gave my DH "what for" and told him not to judge! Yes these people have money but who are we to say and judge how much they give away. I hope that the experiences they have on the show extend into their lives in such a way that they keep on helping/giving in anyway they can.

OK he did give away more than $100,000.00, supposedly through editing they did not air all his give aways. I found a link to his blog.
