E-book revolution?
http://www.computerworld.com/action/...5&pageNumber=1
I don't know if I agree w/ this. I still think I can do better using the library, Paperback Swap, and used bookstores in regards to cost of eBook/Kindle device, etc. What do you think?

I actually got to try out a Kindle- not mine for heaven's sake, I'd never spend that on a gadget!! But I was pleasantly surprised that it felt very much like reading a book. I think as the technology progresses the gadget itself as well as the downloads will become cheaper and more people will have them. A friend commented that she sees them as the future of textbooks because it will eventually be cheaper for schools to supply e-readers and download the texts, plus the kids won't be lugging around 20 lbs of books.
ETA: I think this is also a very environmentally friendly idea for those who like to subscribe to newspapers. I read the free bits online and figure the rest isn't that important, lol- but I know people who like to get the entire paper and you can subscribe to have it sent directly to the Kindle.Last edited by elphie; 02-07-2009 at 04:16 PM.

I use ebooks
I love my ebook. I get books free all the time. It came with 100 free classics but you can get those free on many ebook sites anyway. But every month publishers offer free books. For example for valentines day they had 16 free romance books. This month it is I think sci-fi 4 or 5 free books. It is just great. It holds hundreds of books all in one slim unit and is also a MP3 player so great for the gym. I was not finding the time to get to the library and now I read a couple books a week. It does save many trees. But if you want a specific book and dont want to pay for it you have to go to the library but you know there are ebook libraries now on the internet where it is legal but not all areas have it yet. I am just reading books that I get for free so I am being frugal in that sense. My husband bought it for me as a gift and I was super surprised that he he even knew I liked them (teen daughter told him) because I never would have spent that much on myself.

I have gone back and forth on the eBook. The cost is ridiculous, and then you have to pay around $10/book to add, but I do like the idea of being able to instantly download a book and also like the idea of having a floating library that I can take with me everywhere.
I just can't get myself over the hump of spending that kind of money, though. Maybe I'll see if I can get my family to chip in together and give me a gift certificate for my bday this year....

I know theres free ebooks online in my libary. But I do like the idea of e music on the mp3s or my cousin who listen to it when he's in bed alot with bed sores or in hospital - he listens to books on his mp3s. so he wont get bored.
I never did use it, Ive always just read the book.

I have no interest in E-books. I love to feel the book in my hand, I love the smell of the books. I even like the sound of the paper when a page is turned.

I like holding a newspaper, magazine, or book in my hands. I fear that in my lifetime I will have no choice.

I'm some where in between. With the kids, they can read 4 or 5 books in a week. More in the summer. I do garage sales for them, library sales, but if the costs could go back to reasonable I'd likely get them new ebooks. I like to snuggle near the fire and read, not tied to the computer, but it sounds like there's ar eader that is portable, and THAT would be what pushes me overs.
