I thought the books were decent but the movie was terrible. Well, I guess not terrible, but they could have chose more enthusiastic actors, the girl who plays Bella is as exciting as paint drying.

Dave & I watched the movie last night. As usual, the book was better than the movie. However, I did enjoy it, and I was surprised that Dave really liked it too.
I stopped reading at #3 in the series because I got it from the library, and I wasn't finished with it when it had to be returned (no renewals on waiting list items). I'm going to get it again and finish them.

Like most books made into movies, the books are always so much better. Books just have more "meat" to them.
That said, I enjoyed the movie. I am not sure I would have liked it as much if I had not read the books before hand.
I actually went to see this at the theatre one day while the kids were in school. LOL I had never been to a movie by myself before, but I wanted to see this on the big screen. Plus, I wanted to watch it before I decided if I would let my younger kids see it.
When we watched it together the day it came out on DVD, my son kept asking me "so, what happened in the book?"

:agree: I definitely wouldn't have liked it as much if I didn't read the books first. I can say the opposite for Dave though. If he had read the books first, he probably wouldn't have wanted to watch the movie because the books focused more on the love story aspect of it, IMO. Dave liked it so much that he watched it again last night. I was just going to watch it alone the first time. I had no idea he'd be even remotely interested in watching it.

I also agree with many of you that the books are much much better than the movie. I have read all of the books and absolutely love them. I have never read a series of books where I could literally pick the first one up again and read it after finishing the last one.
I bought the movie last week but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I am looking forward to all of the bonus features.

We bought the DVD & watched it last night. I really liked it, but haven't read the books. DH wasn't sure if he would like it or not, but he did. Can't wait to have my sis watch it! I'm glad we bought the DVD instead of just going to the movies. I definitely want to watch this one more than once or twice. Still thinking about buying the first book... can't decide if I have enough time to read it right now.

I agree! And some of those stares by "Edward" were just weird! I'm almost always disappointed in movie versions of books. The only exception that I can think of where the movie is better than the book is Bridges of Madison County.
I'm glad I got it from Netflix, instead of buying.

I actually saw the movie first. Wouldn't have read the books had not seen the movie because I don't have daughters so it probably would have slipped by me being touted as a teen series in book form.
Although it does seem there are a lot of adults who read the book series too, just saying most of the time I would figure that something that would appeal to teens probably wouldn't to me.
I liked the movie, I very much liked the books. I read the whole series. I usually am not into vampire stuff, but the book fleshes out aspects of romance ... with a vampire and of course adds in werewolves :-)
Worth renting, maybe try borrowing books from library if you are hesitant first. :-)Change Jar - 239.00 ~ March 18 , 2006

my mom brought over the movie the other day. i will probbably watch it sometime within the next week or so. want to read the book before watching the movie. lol, i didnt even know about this series before the movie started getting attention (same thing with harry potter). there is a series that is sort of similar to this. its more for the adults (sex and death). its by laurell k hamilton. its about anita blake who raises the dead during the night, does work with the police and is a vampire hunter.

yeah...
Loved the books, movie was only OK. Acting was a little stiff. Considering it had a fairly small budget, I think future movies in the series will be better. I'm looking forward to how they deal with the werewolves.
For those of you who liked the books, don't forget to check out her novel geared more for adults -"The Host". It's about alien invasion ala Body Snatchers. It's not a series, but well worth the read!

I got Eclipse (again) from the library today. I was only able to read part of it the last time I took it out. I wasn't allowed to renew it because it's so popular right now. Sooooo I requested it again, and it finally came in again today.

Saw the movie last night. dh got it for me for my birthday. I have to say I really didn't have an interest in watching the movie, but I can now say I really liked the movie. It was totally better than I thought it would be. I may just have to read the books.
