Angry libary book rant-a little long

well the libary still says I have "refining Fire-love blossoms in the old west". nope no way. The same day after I dropped it off,
and watched the new girl read the back of the book as I was going to other side of counter to pick up new ones that were in, it still said that nite on the net I still had that book overdue.
Incase I was wrong- i rechecked 2x the truck and the house ---nope not there.
I called them and One of the workers said it happened to her before and it showed up at home. I told her No i remember seeing that girl look at read the back of the back that day i dropped it off.
Anyways still as of the 4th they say I have it. Aint happening.
So I asked when do i buy this book or pay full price for what it is? She said Id get something(bill) to the mail and wait for the month incase it shows up. I wont be charged for the lateness just the price of the book. But I dont like that because it makes me look on my card bad, and I always pay up on time. I never let it go past 3 days. 15 cents per day.
I know the girl frigged up, and accidents happen. But she either put in on the normalshelfs and someone got the book and it didnt go through(swiped with the machine of the card-upc) or it di go back to the other libary and no one borrowe it yet. thers only 1 book like that as far as I know its large print.

Did you go look on the shelf? I've had that happen before...I found it on the shelf and brought it to them.

Sorry you're dealing with this...definitely a pitb, especially when you know you're right.

Yep...look it up and go check the shelf! It's happened to me before. I swore up and down that I had returned it. They told me they would look for it and they never did. The next time I was in the library, I decided to look for it myself and sure enough, it was on the shelf where it should be! I guess they didn't check it back in before it got reshelved!

Hopefully you can find it at the library!

you can always talk to the branch manager, inform him/her of the situation & that you know for a fact that you dropped it off and could he/she have someone look for it. you don't want to have a negative reputation on your card, are willing to pay late charge or price of the book - whichever comes out the least expensive... but reiterate that you dropped it off on such&such day... and after that, you are no longer responsible for the whereabouts of that book once it's in the library's hands... even if misplaced/mishandled.

I am going through this with our Library right now. This is the third time this year that a book I've returned hasn't gotten scanned in. What our library does is go & check on the shelf. Two of the three times, the books have been found on the shelf...they hadn't gotten scanned in properly. I was told it happens frequently. Now they are telling me I didn't return one (that I KNOW I did because it never left the library bag...it didn't get read) AND it's not on the shelf. I'm just waiting it out because I know darned well I returned it.

I hope they find your book. It's so frustrating because no matter what you do, the library is ALWAYS RIGHT.

Wow, I'm sorry you are going through this! My library is all automated now...when you return the books you push it through a little slot it scans it, puts it on a conveyor belt and then dropped into the right bin, for re shelving...it's instant as soon as it's scanned it's off your account! I hope they straighten it all out for you. From now on when you return books, I would make them scan them in right in front of you and show you on their computer screen that it has been taken off your account.. If they don't like it too bad!

I had this happen to me several times and I always found the book on the shelf and took it to them. NOW I make them scan my books in WHILE I STAND THERE and verify that ALL books have been returned. They don't always like me, but I don't care! I go online as soon as I get home to double check that they were all scanned in.

FYI - My dog chewed a corner of a library book (lesson learned) and I had to pay LIST PLUS $10. I verified that they actually replaced the book.

    Sorry this happened to you!

My daughter had this happen to her in 2005. I told them we never even took that book out. So of course we went thru the usual: is it in your car and house bit. Then I'm thinking whats to stop an employee to check it out in my name and take it. You just need someones number not their card. They employ a lot of young kids. I hate to think this way. Anyway, my daughter washed and dried the numbers right off her card. She goes in (we haven't been to this library in all this time) to get a new card and it is $2.00. The other library is only .50 but we don't live in that city and you have to go where you live.. So,she finds there is still a $14.00 fine there. She wanted to apply for a job but you cannot if you have late fees. Whatever happened to amnesty day? Especially since we never had the book to begin with!
So,I understand your frustration, It's not just you. Oh, and yes I give them 100's of books. In fact the lady said I take such good care of the H.C. she wants them for the library instead of the sale. (that will be $14.00 please.)lol

I wouldn't buy another book and expect them to accept it. They might not, and then you would be stuck buying two. You should check with them before you do that.

I've had this happen twice in the last few months. I have to call...tell them I returned it... They put me on hold and go look. It's on the shelf...they scan it in. Blah, blah... At least they're nice to me about it...I'd be ticked if they were rude!

Hope they find that book soon!!
