Default How Old Were Your Kids Before They Started Watching...

Road to Avonlea or Little House on the Prairie shows?

DD1 is 5 years old, but I'm not sure she'd be able to get all that's going on and be able to enjoy the shows to its fullest. That's why I ask this question. I can't wait until we can have mommy and daughter "show nights" where we sit back, eat popcorn and watch some wholesome family shows.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I think it depends on the child when they can understand certain shows. My dd was about 7 for Little House. Before then it was Shirley Temple movies. She is almost 16 and still watches both of them.

My daughter really loves the little house books (she is 8).

She has tried the Little House Series and it didn't really hold her attention but she loved the Little House on the Prairie Movie ( the 2005 updated version by Disney I think - we watched it on Hallmark Channel.) She watched several hours of this the mini series was 6 hours long and when we watched it was being shown in marathon mode.

I didn't watch Little House on the Prairie until I was in 8th grade my parents considered it a soap opera.

I know that there is at least one Little House episode the I wouldn't want daughter to watch at 8 years old as it dealt with rape and a pregnancy resulting from the rape of the girl.

I remember that one and I 100% sure wouldn't want her to watch it either. I wonder why they made that episode when it was a show for children. Strange.

I'm not sure Little House on the Prairie is a considered a children's show (family show maybe). I've seen lots of tv PG rated Little House shows ( Today on Hallmark channel they are all G) I wonder if the later year ones have the higher pg ratings maybe.

I wonder what that would would be rated pg 13 at least I'm guessing

My youngest dd started watching Road to Avonlea when she was 7. She really enjoys it and so do I.

Little House seems to be directed at an older audience. It didn't hold her attention as much.
