Yes, I have to admit, the hoarding shows really bother me. I can't watch them. I'll stick with Clean House.
Have a fun trip.

I've watched every episode on aetv.com. Many of them multiple times. The scariest part is when I feel myself relating to the hoarders and their feelings.
Been there, done that, it can be overcome. Good for you for changing your life. In time some of the tasks do become second-nature, but it is a daily effort of decisions. Hugs to you.LDR

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

The show scares me also. Thats why i watch it. It reminds me i myself or someone i love could be living like that.It doesn't creep me out, just gives me a good understanding about people and what they might be going through.Hoarders attacks the really problems that we deal with. Most hoarders its something from the past in childhood. Clean house i do watch on occasions but to me its all kinda a joke and nothing really gets solved and goes to the root of the problem.

We watch that show too. I can somewhat understand the attachment to sentimental items, but what boggles my mind are the people who haven't thrown out their pizza boxes, soda cans, etc.. in years. What would make a person keep their trash?
Good job in conquering your hoarding problem Nana!

Yes, I too can relate. I've never been a hoarder, however something has shifted in my mindset since my husband lost his job over 2 years ago. I find myself understanding my Aunt and Uncle who lived through the depression, they had 2 of everything~just in case. I no longer feel comfortable having just enough towels, sheets, ~fill in the blank. I've developed this must prepared for the absolute worst that can happen mindset, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to move past it.
That said, no trash here, no animal collections that's something I can't understand, but I sure do sympathize. It must be really tough going through that.~~~

Good for you!!
When my Step-Grandmother was a baby her father died in a bar fight. Her mother moved back in with her parents and they all raised my Grandmother and her brother. This was during the depression and to say her and her brother were unwanted is an understatement. She up with very little.
When she passed away a few years ago, I was amazed at what she had saved. She used every milk jug several times. There were balls of string that she had saved from dog food bags. Absolutly everything was used and reused.
She saved all leftovers for later. I remember opening a butter bowl that she had reused to save beans, there may have been a tablespoon of them.
I find myself getting more and more attached to the things that I have. I try to find mutliple uses for items. I use jars that foods came in for canning new items. I reuse grocery bags for trash bags and on and on.
I watch the show sometimes to and get assurance that I am NOT a horder and then go throw out everything and anything that I can.
