The Dollmaker ~ by Harriette Arnow
I had never heard of this book, nor the movie, until the FV thread about the most 'frugal inspiring' movies/television shows -
You guys had such rave reviews about the movie (with Jane Fonda) that I searched high & low, but still cannot find it (free) anywhere!
I did find it available for $4 to download, but I'm just not spending $4 on a movie download that may not work -
so I went to the library to search for the book -
Wow -
so this is where I've been in every spare moment for the past 4 days - reading -
I'm 3/4 finished - and I admit it was a rough start due to the language -
"dem youngens betar git um den"
OMG - I just feel the need to bathe and study an English book immediately following some of those sentences -
BUT it is a VERY VERY good story. I am VERY much in agreement that it is frugally inspiring!!
If you haven't read it, please do - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

ohhh, the English is Broken alright!
I really wish I could find the movie! I've searched Hulu & YouTube, but I don't know where else I can look??
If you liked this one, you may also like Angela's Ashes (if you haven't read it yet) - it's non-fiction, which just makes it even more inspiring to me -
(also a movie, but I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say if it's 'inspiring')Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

I loved the movie, 'The Dollmaker' and can't wait to read the book. I can speak Appalachian very fluently since I was born and raised and still live about 1/2 mile from the river that inspired the movie, 'Deliverance'. lol

ok, so I finished The Dollmaker last night.
I'm almost sad that it's over.
NOT the ending I had expected, and that's all I'll say about that.
