Angry Commercials that are irritating me

I'm getting so tired of commercials in which someone states...."it's the best decision I've/we've ever made!" Really? Buying a mineral makeup was a better decision than deciding to have your kids? Or not have kids? Buying a mattress was a better/more important decision than marrying your spouse?........or applying for that job?.....or what college to go to?

Pffft!! I am so tired of all that. Also, Lifestyle Lift. Having your double chin go away helps your confidence? Really? Maybe it's just me, but I find this so shallow and vane. "Best decision they ever made"....better than any of the really important stuff that life is made of? Besides all of those women look as though they either have their face lifted up higher in the 'after' (and are smiling---always a face-improvement) OR have had real true plastic surgery.

Materialistic, shallow, beauty-based, silly advertising aimed at age-fearful women, and ridiculous phrases like 'best decision I EVER made' just make me want to wretch.

I think that is just the society we live in. It used to be that you respected your elders and learned from them. Now nobody wants to become old and thus it is big business. So don't look for those ads to go away anytime soon.

The one that gets on my nerves is a certain olay commercial for a facial cleanser. The ad is all about how this cleanser works so well at cleaning off all dirt and makeup you want to go barefaced. Except the girl is CLEARLY still wearing makeup after she has supposedly washed her face. I wonder what advertisers will do as more and more people switch to commercial free options like netflix.

I get irritated with Allstate commercials, because I had them for YEARS, and they basically left me high and dry (in a bad way) on my homeowner's insurance, when they claimed they did an inspection and approved my insurance, then later told me that I had to clear a certain yardage of brush from my house after southern California had a year of bad wildfires. (I might point out that I am in NORTHERN California and not very close to any forest.) My property line, on the side they had an issue with, was less than the yardage they wanted cleared (which would mean me going onto someone else's private property and clearing THEIR brush). When I informed them of this fact, they basically said too bad. I asked them to provide me a letter specifically stating that they understood that they were telling me I had to clear brush that was not on my property; they said they would; but they sent me a generic letter about clearing brush. When I reminded them that they had supposedly come out and inspected my property, while I was in the process of buying it, they said they hadn't actually come out (even though they said they did in writing), so didn't know about the issue.

I dropped them on both house and auto (after having them for over 20 years) and got a better policy with Liberty Mutual, so they did me a favour. But I still grit my teeth when the spokesman comes on and talks about how responsible the agency is and how you are in such "good hands" with them.

Can you tell I'm still p*ssed about it?

What drives me nuts is all the *aging women* commercials that have 30 year old models!!!

And have you noticed even the viagra commercials are portraying younger and younger men....sick.

My oldest gets all worked up over this commercial for the elderly. In it it shows elderly people all dejected and lonely. (absolutely nothing to do with the product they are selling) And then pictures of the elderly after they purchased the product all happy, life wonderful. Because apparently unless you use their product your latter years are doomed. But if you use their product your grandchildren will visit, you'll play checkers with them and go out to eat ice cream!

He also hates the "Is life passing you by because you don't have a big screen TV?" We'll sell you one rent to own. Bad credit, no credit, it does not matter. It will cost you a zillion dollars in the end, but life won't pass you by. Your friends will love to hang out with you too!

The commercials that get me are the hair color for men. The one where the gray football player? is laying on a hammock in the yard and young 20 somethings are in the yard next door doing yard work. They totally dis him. But he uses the hair color and all the girls suddenly become totally into him, bouncing all around and they start doing his yard work while he relaxes on the hammock. LOL! Do guys really buy that crap!?

Honestly dude, no young 20 something is going to be interested in an old man just cause he dyes his hair. Now become a wealthy man and they'll be crawling all over you, but a SS check and dyeing your hair? Please!

The beer commercials too! If I drink this beer then girls are going to find me attractive, and climb all over me.

I hate all the pseudoscience in them, too: "97% of women felt more confident after using our new 'You Will Die Alone If You Aren't Beautiful Face Cream'." That means nothing! There is nothing concrete about the effectiveness of the product if the best they can say is in a 'clinical study' people subjectively noted, "I'm pretty sure I noticed a bit of a difference after using it and kind of felt more confident". They put in statistics and say 'study' and 'trial' to make it sound more reputable.

Also, perfume . I don't see how the adverts have anything to do with how something smells. I don't care how attractive the beautiful, tall, slim person is who is 'the face' of the product. No amount of them gliding about in a field gazing adoringly into the camera or being soaked in the ocean with glittering abs is going to make me want to wear something that actually smells like disinfectant.

Is it normal to get so irate at this?

I thought about the perfume ads in magazines. They look sick!!
They look hungry!! What makes the perfume and fashion industry think this is beautiful??? Oh....I am going to run right out and get that perfume by a "celebrity" who probably uses a different perfume!!

Agreed. I get that some people are naturally slender and that there are those who find it hard to gain weight even if they wanted to, but some models look worryingly thin and the fact that it's 'aspirational' is mad. Not everyone's body is wired that way.

Ha, yeah, I doubt the celebrity uses the perfume. I always think that with celebrity endorsements for home-use hair care products, like dyes. Yes, I'm sure Penelope Cruz dyes her hair at home in her bathroom and then ties it up in a plastic bag to let it set, hoping that she hasn't accidentally left a chunk of hair out somewhere near the back because she couldn't really get at it properly. It's not like she has a personal hair-dresser with the most expensive top-of-the-range dyes to do this for her or anything.

LOL! Anything to sell a product right?

I'm positive that most of those models are not naturally thin and they are in fact hungry. I spent years starving myself to have a concave stomach, lean thighs, pencil thin wrists. Trying to meet some ideal that somebody??? made me believe was the only way I had worth, was marketable. It's a travesty the image they project to women.

Stanley Steamer. I get really upset when that dog drags his rump over the carpet, and I know exactly the feeling that poor woman experiences."Toby!!!!!!!"( I have had plastic surgery, I use face cream and perfume and I am thin. It's awful.Grin.)
