Thumbs down DO NOT, Repeat, DO NOT go to see Gangs of New York

I didn't have much interest in seeing this, but then heard the critics say it was good....5 stars...blah blah blah. I hated it! It was violent, violent, gory and senseless.....and it was 2hrs and 44minutes long! Worst movie I've seen in years...maybe even the worst ever. To each his/her own, just heed my warning....

I had a feeling it would be like that. I wonder if the other Leo DeCaprio (sp) movie will be any good?

Not sure I would see Gangs of New York anyway..Not my type of movie.

Catch me if you can..I want to see! I'm currently reading the book and I like it so far....I'm amazed at how much this guy got away with doing!

Thanks for the info. I guess I will pass on it. I heard great reviews from the critics. Will take your advice though and pass.

Thanks! Like everyone else I heard great reviews for this movie. But I only heard one person (critic) mention that it is terribly gross. A lot of violence. But when asked about that the director and actors said that it is based on a true story from that time in NY. They actually toned it down from what really happened. It looks interesting to me but I can't handle all the blood!!

Catch me if you can is something I want to see. I saw an interview with the man the story is based on from the Today show about a week or so ago. It's just amazing to me the things he got away with. The man is now employed with the FBI. Interesting how things happen in life!!!

I've heard mixed reviews but I always go with Wall Street Journal and they said it was gory and lost focus in the middle.

I am looking forward to seeing it ~ I watched a show about it on the History channel that was very interesting. That's just the way life was in the Five Points in those days

DH, DD, and DS saw Catch Me if You Can and said it was boring ~ it's a fairly long movie, too.

    Thumbs up

OK, I'll be the lone dissenter

I finally saw Gangs of NY and I must say that if someone doesn't win an academy award for this movie then the awards are rigged!

Yes, it's violent but I knew that going in so it didn't surprise me. Maybe I liked it more since my grandparents were part of the Irish "foreign hordes"

Daniel Day-Lewis was fabulous! I DO NOT like Leonardo DiCaprio at all but he really made me forget that.

One thing the movie has done is sparked an interest in me to read up on the draft riots ~ I know a little about them but would like to know more. I like movies that make me think.

This movie is definately not for the squeamish but I think that it pales in comparison to how life really was in those days.
