Exclamation A great read - The Diary of Mattie Spenser

The Diary of Mattie Spenser by Sandra Dallas, author of the Persian Pickle Club is one of the best books that I've read in a long time.

Its about a young couple who set out on their homesteading dream (well actually his homesteading dream) and although I haven't finished the book yet, I'm having a hard time putting it down.

With each page, its getting better and better!!

    Another great read for 2003!!

I finished reading this book this morning and although the ending was a wee bit weak, this is such a great book to read.

Although this book is fiction, I can't imagine what some of the homesteaders went through and how young the women were who went with their husbands to lands they didn't know about, without family and friends and how strong they were.

In fact, to me I think the women were the stronger of the 2 and in most books that I've read in regards to homesteading, I've seen that, be the books fictional or true stories.

    You'll enjoy this book.

I have finished reading the Persian Pickle Club and am almost finished the Diary of Mattie Spenser. Both of these books are excellent. I loved the Persian Pickle so much that I read it in 2 days! The Diary of Mattie Spenser is sometimes funny, sometimes sad but more than anything else it seems so real. I can just imagine the characters coming to life. Great reads!!

I just finished The Diary of Mattie Spenser. I really liked it, a little disappointed with the ending though. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it, lets just say I thought it should have worked out the other way. You'll know what I mean when you read it.
