what do you think of the book so far.

What do you think of Julia and her trust in GOD providing everything also the fact that she can find just about anything they need?

What do you think of Samuel and him taking his family somewhere that is totally unknown?

What about the house they have found?

What do you think about the neighbors?

    remember this is 1929!

Would you have left the place where you are comfortable with for a promise to start new somewhere else. I will post my answers later.

    - What do you think of the book so far great.

    - What do you think of Julia's faith in God and the fact she can find just about anything - Julia is my type of woman. Not only does she have a very strong faith, she also learnt how to make do and to search the outdoors to make meals when she has nothing else.

    - What do you think of Daniel and taking his family somewhere that is totally unknown - Well I won't get into a discussion yet about Daniel. Remember though, he was taking his family to a friend of his, so although it was the unknown, he would still be where there was a friend. I'm all for adventure so I didn't mind that he was doing that. I think he was looking to better himself and to get employment, although he didn't look into that too well. As to what of think of him, well.....

    - What do you think of the house they found - that would be the type of house I would love to find, fix up and live in. A true homestead home.

    - What do you think of the neighbours - I don't think the neighbours are really much different from what they are now. They were living in 1929, just when unemployment was big time. I don't want to give the plot away here, so I'm being careful as to what I say. I also think some of the neighbours were very concerned for Emma.

    - Would you have left a place where you were comfortable with a promise to start something new elsewhere - thats the best question here, because I'm facing that right now and to be quite honest I'm not sure I can do it. In their situation, they seemed to have lost pretty much everything and there was no chance of employment, so they had to do something. I'm not sure leaving without doing research into where they were going was the right way to do it. But whether I would have done it or not, I can't truthfully answer!!

It'll be interesting to read other posts.

I think Julia's faith in God is very inspiring. She knows He is always watching out and lives like it. The book is sooooo good, I'm having a hard time putting it down.
I have mixed feelings about Samuel, I can feel his struggle but I also want him to get motivated. The house sounds so incredible, I would love the opportunity to do that.
The neighbors seem ok so far, I'm sure there's trouble ahead though. It seem like they had no other choice than to leave Penn, especially with Samuels cousin promising a job. I would have been scary, but I probably would have gone also.

Darn, I want to read this one and participate, but I just don't have the time right now. I'm adding it to my "must read" list.

I loved this book! I read it through in one sitting! Awesome choice.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE BOOK SO FAR? I love it, can't say enough about how much I enjoyed reading it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF JULIA AND HER TRUST IN GOD PROVIDING EVERYTHING, ALSO THE FACT THAT SHE CAN FIND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THEY NEED? I thought Julia's faith in God was very strong, especially in light of their circumstances. I couldn't help but put myself in her place, and imagine how I would be behaving. I read the scriptures and believe in God's providence, but losing so much, I wonder if I wouldn't be wailing, why me God? Do you know what I mean? So Julia's confidence about God providing and not only that but just her attitude about the beauty around her and the song in her heart, was wonderful to see.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SAMUEL AND HIM TAKING HIS FAMILY SOMEWHERE THAT IS TOTALLY UNKNOWN?
Remembering that this is 1929, I can feel for Samuel, men back then, (and let's face it, quite a few today), felt the financial responsibility for caring for their families. I think he felt horrible guilt over losing everything, and was taking a huge chance on a possibility of a job. But really, I don't think they had much of a choice but to go together.

WHAT ABOUT THE HOUSE THEY HAVE FOUND? The house is great, right up Julia's alley. I think the closeness she shared with her grandmother had prepared her for this house, and this time.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEIGHBORS? The people they've met so far have been a little worrisome I think. More to say on them later.

WOULD YOU HAVE LEFT THE PLACE WHERE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH FOR A PROMISE TO START NEW SOMEWHERE ELSE? This would be a tough one for me, but if we'd lost everything like this family, and had a promise for something better, I guess I'd go and make the best of it.
