Why not ???????? I understand the state of the union right now, but I think why not, it wouldn't be disrespectful to have them.....

I could care less one way or the other. Personally I don't want to listen to each of them speak out against war. That would add another 4 hours to the show.

I'm fine with them having "The Oscars". It's an award show and has nothing to do with the war in Iraq. My only concern is that "some" of the presenters and winners will use this as a political forum to voice their personal opinions on the war. I personally have had enough of the winey and pampered celebrities bashing our president and not supporting our brave men and woman who are laying their lives on the line for us and for the Iraqi people.
Stepping down gracefully off my soapbox now.

I agree with this, I hate listening to actors take advantage of their "position" in society to speak out.Originally posted by PennyPinchinPam

I don't watch them anyway, but I think that they should still have the show. Life must go on, and while I won't fly due to the current state of the world, I don't think we should be postponing or cancelling things because of it.

I agree with what Michelle said, life does need to go on, so yes they should have them.
I also agree for anyone watching them, it will probably mean a few extra hours because of political speeches!! I don't agree with that either.

It always seems I have a desenting opinion, that is why I love it here, because I feel safe expressing mine.
I think they should be cancelled only because I think they would be an excellent target for terrorism. Heres why: The actors who would be present at those awards are beloved by this country. They are like our family, we allow them into our homes everytime we tune them in on our tv's, become obsessed with their personal lives etc. I just stand back and worry that if something terrible were to happen there, it might hurt this country in such a way we may never get over. I am not saying that I think that their lives are more important than those lost on 9/11, but maybe more painful because we "know" these people intimately
Just my opinion
It should also be noted that I do not support the notion that people should altar their lives in any way so I guess I am talking out of both sides of my mouth
