Heaven I don't have the book in front of me so I might not be able to answer all the questions.

Which design was your favorite in the first 4 chapters Can't answer, don't have the book. Now that heaven told us, the Log Cabin would be my favorite.)

Did you like the description of the designs at the beginning of each chapter Yes, she did a good job of that.

Could you have stayed on the farm with just your mil as company My mil was a fascinating woman but I would not have been able to stay with her for that length of time, kwim!!

Should she have worried about the husband for her husband. Should he have had to worry about knowing how to sew Changing my answer here to say, I'm not sure. It could have been very valuable to him on the war field and I'm sure she probably was thinking that. He shouldn't have had to worry about sewing, but again it sure wouldn't hurt him (or any guy) to know how to sew.

I had trouble about sleeping on cornshucks each night, how about you Me too, can't imagine what that would have been like. Probably a tad bit prickly I would think and not very soft, although they never seemed to complain.

The statement about letting African American sit at the table on Sunday for dinner, do you think a lot of people from the north thought that way I would think they did during that time period.

Have you ever been to a quilting No but sure would love to.

If you had the opportunity to go would you Yes

Does Alice act really young to you Somewhat, but in reading most books during this time period, I find pretty much the same thing. Not sure if girls during that time frame were a bit young of age.

Did you get enough information of the people in the book No, I actually wish they had given more information on the mil.

Did Alice really have a lot of work to do or did she complain a lot I wondered that too, she didn't seem to be doing a whole lot of work did she.

Was it right for Alice and the other girl to write a letter for Miss Kitty No it wasn't and as you go further into the book, you soon find out why.

Samuel Smead was introduced. What do you think of him Do I have to say - he struck me as one of those guys who thinks he is God's gift to woman". I took an instant dislike to him.

Annie and her little girl, is it a good thing that Mrs. Bullock took them in An emphatic YES!!!

    Great questions heaven!!

WHICH DESIGN WAS YOUR FAVORITE? (IN THE FIRST 4 CHAPTERS)
Not sure. I liked the second and the fourth one. I think the fourth was the Iowa Patch? Returned the book already.

DID YOU LIKE THE DESCRIPTION OF THE QUILTS THAT WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CHAPTERS?
She did a very good job at this.

COULD YOU HAVE STAYED ON A FARM WITH JUST YOUR MOTHER IN LAW FOR COMPANY? NOT for a MILLION dollars!

SHOULD SHE HAVE WORRIED ABOUT THE HUSBAND FOR HER HUSBAND? SHOULD HE HAVE HAD TO WORRY ABOUT KNOWING HOW TO SEW?
I think all men should know how to sew if but for that very reason

I HAD TROUBLE THINKING ABOUT SLEEPING ON CORN SHUCKS EVERYNIGHT, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
As long as I was comfortable I guess during that time I may NOT have minded

hE STATEMENT ABOUT LETTING AFRICIAN AMERICAN SIT AT THE TABLE ON SUNDAY FOR DINNER, (REMEMBER THE TIME) DO YOU THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THE NORTH FELT THAT WAY??
Yes, I know people to this day who would NOT let a person of color even enter their house!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A QUILTING??\ No

IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO WOULD YOU? Yes

DOES ALICE AT REALLY YOUNG TO YOU? Yes I thought she was about 14 when I began reading.

DID YOU GET ENOUGH INFORMATION ON THE PEOPLE IN THE BOOK? No, I thought more on MIL

DID ALICE REALLY HAVE ALOT OF WORK OR DID SHE JUST COMPLAIN ALOT? I think she had too much on her. But I suppose that they all did back then

WAS IT RIGHT FOR ALICE AND THE OTHER GIRL TO WRITE A LETTER FROM MISS KITTY? No I would not been very happy if it had happened to me

SAMUEL SMEAD WAS INTRODUCED WHAT DID YOU THINK OF HIM?
I didn't like him. I thought him to be rather sneaky.

ANNIE AND HER LITTLE GIRL, IS IT A GOOD THING THAT MRS. BULLOCK TOOK THEM IN??
Yes, I'd have done the same thing being in that situation.

WHICH DESIGN WAS YOUR FAVORITE? (IN THE FIRST 4 CHAPTERS) can't say I returned the book already.

DID YOU LIKE THE DESCRIPTION OF THE QUILTS THAT WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CHAPTERS? I actually skipped over those at the beginning of each chapter. I was to eager to get to reading her letters.

COULD YOU HAVE STAYED ON A FARM WITH JUST YOUR MOTHER IN LAW FOR COMPANY? I love my mil but I don't think I could do it. I couldn't subject her to that. LOL!

SHOULD SHE HAVE WORRIED ABOUT THE HUSBAND FOR HER HUSBAND? SHOULD HE HAVE HAD TO WORRY ABOUT KNOWING HOW TO SEW? I think you mean she should have worried about a quilt for her husband? It was nice of her, my hubby would of froze to death. LOL! I can't sew so how could I expect him too? LOL!

I HAD TROUBLE THINKING ABOUT SLEEPING ON CORN SHUCKS EVERYNIGHT, WHAT ABOUT YOU? no way!!

hE STATEMENT ABOUT LETTING AFRICIAN AMERICAN SIT AT THE TABLE ON SUNDAY FOR DINNER, (REMEMBER THE TIME) DO YOU THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THE NORTH FELT THAT WAY?? yes it was a different world back then. I think more Yankees felt that way than they let on.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A QUILTING?? nope

IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO WOULD YOU? maybe

DOES ALICE AT REALLY YOUNG TO YOU? at times she acted her young age but at other times she acted very mature for her young age.

DID YOU GET ENOUGH INFORMATION ON THE PEOPLE IN THE BOOK? I think so but at first I had Frank and Sam Snead confused with one another. LOL!

DID ALICE REALLY HAVE ALOT OF WORK OR DID SHE JUST COMPLAIN ALOT? yes, women worked so hard back in those days. She didn't complain as much as I would have. LOL!

WAS IT RIGHT FOR ALICE AND THE OTHER GIRL TO WRITE A LETTER FROM MISS KITTY? no, but it wasn't done to be hurtful.

SAMUEL SMEAD WAS INTRODUCED WHAT DID YOU THINK OF HIM? I didn't like him from the start, I had him and Frank confused so I didn't like either of them. LOL!

ANNIE AND HER LITTLE GIRL, IS IT A GOOD THING THAT MRS. BULLOCK TOOK THEM IN?? YES!! I loved Annie and her little girl. Great characters.

SORRY SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR JUST 4 CHAPTERS BUT THERE SEEMED TO BE SO MUCH GOING ON.

ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?? Nope you pretty much covered it.

Which design was your favorite in the first 4 chapters?
I would have to say Log Cabin as well.

Did you like the description of the designs at the beginning of each chapter?
Yes, I found these very interesting. I wasn't aware of the background to some of the quilt patterns we see today.

Could you have stayed on the farm with just your mil as company?Hmm... I think so. Dave's mom is actually a very nice person. Now if I had to stay with his dad and sisters... thats another story! LOL

Should she have worried about the husband for her husband. Should he have had to worry about knowing how to sew?
I agree with CJ here, it wouldn't hurt any man to know how to sew.

I had trouble thinking about sleeping on cornshucks each night, how about you?
I wouldn't think they would be all that comfy... but better than the hard floor of that log house, I'm sure!

The statement about letting African American sit at the table on Sunday for dinner, do you think a lot of people from the north thought that way?
When the story is taking place, yes they most likely did. Its a shame.

Have you ever been to a quilting?
Nope. But wouldn't that be such fun!?!?

If you had the opportunity to go would you?
    Definately!

Does Alice act really young to you?
A tad bit, but I think she is dealing with alot for her age.

Did you get enough information of the people in the book?
I think so. She described everyone well. Maybe a little more could be said about Charlie's father.

Did Alice really have a lot of work to do or did she complain a lot?
I think she had alot to do... and alot to worry about.

Was it right for Alice and the other girl to write a letter for Miss Kitty?
    No way!

Samuel Smead was introduced. What do you think of him?
What a pig! He acts like everyone should be in love with him.

Annie and her little girl, is it a good thing that Mrs. Bullock took them in?
Oh yes! Who knows what would have happened to them otherwise. I love that she took them in.

WHICH DESIGN WAS YOUR FAVORITE? (IN THE FIRST 4 CHAPTERS)
    Log cabin

DID YOU LIKE THE DESCRIPTION OF THE QUILTS THAT WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CHAPTERS?
Yes, I think they do a good job describing them, and I like hearing how they came to be

COULD YOU HAVE STAYED ON A FARM WITH JUST YOUR MOTHER IN LAW FOR COMPANY? Heck no!!!!!

SHOULD SHE HAVE WORRIED ABOUT THE HUSBAND FOR HER HUSBAND? SHOULD HE HAVE HAD TO WORRY ABOUT KNOWING HOW TO SEW? I think this was excellent thinking on her part to send this just in case

I HAD TROUBLE THINKING ABOUT SLEEPING ON CORN SHUCKS EVERYNIGHT, WHAT ABOUT YOU? I think they sound horribly uncomfortable, but after all that hard labor during the day, I would say that they were probably a million times more comfortable than the floor!

hE STATEMENT ABOUT LETTING AFRICIAN AMERICAN SIT AT THE TABLE ON SUNDAY FOR DINNER, (REMEMBER THE TIME) DO YOU THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THE NORTH FELT THAT WAY?? Yes, this was the common thought in those times.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A QUILTING?? No

IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO WOULD YOU? Absolutely!

DOES ALICE AT REALLY YOUNG TO YOU? I think she acts her age.

DID YOU GET ENOUGH INFORMATION ON THE PEOPLE IN THE BOOK? Actually I'd have loved to get more background about the characters in the book

DID ALICE REALLY HAVE ALOT OF WORK OR DID SHE JUST COMPLAIN ALOT? I think she had a lot to do!

WAS IT RIGHT FOR ALICE AND THE OTHER GIRL TO WRITE A LETTER FROM MISS KITTY? No, definitely not.

SAMUEL SMEAD WAS INTRODUCED WHAT DID YOU THINK OF HIM?
I thought he was very conceited.

ANNIE AND HER LITTLE GIRL, IS IT A GOOD THING THAT MRS. BULLOCK TOOK THEM IN?? Yes, I think so.
