Question What is the oldest book you have?

I have a book calledBraithwaite's Retrospect of Medicine Vol XXVI July-Dec 1852. After reading some of this book believe me~ I am so thankful for advances in medicine!

I also have an 1899 Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel DeFoe and an undated
    The Arabian Nights

I love the covers of old books, they just don't make them as fancy as they used to.

"The Settlement Cookbook: The Way To A Man's Heart" by Mrs. Simon Kander. My great-aunt Helen passed it on to me, and I think it was given to her for a wedding present. The book was published in the very early part of the 20th century. Lots of good old-fashioned recipes! The only other book I have that is close enough to being "old" is my mother's copy of "The Joy of Cooking" which she got from her mother around 1951 when my parents married. The binding is falling apart, but it is a good resource for me.

I have an old book, dated 1879 from England. Its packed away right now so I don't have the exact title, but it was my great uncles and passed down to me. Its all about homemaking and has recipes to just about everything in there.

I would love to use it, but the binding is coming apart and many of the pages are lose, because of the wear and tear from my great uncle.

I'd love to get it redone, but there isn't anywhere near me that does that. It also has some family history written on the cover that I'm so afraid of losing because of wear and tear.

I agree Darlene, they sure don't make covers like they use to.

I have several old cookbooks from the late 1800s. I just love old books. One of my favorite scents in the world is the smell of an old library. We had a wonderful old library in the next town over from us but the building had became unstable and dangerous so they moved the library into a new building. It is a wonderful library but it lacks that "old library" smell. I really miss that.
