I love old books, especially ones about rural life. I love a book from the 40s or 50s called "The Egg and I" by Betty MacDonald. It is about a couple who buy a dilapidated chicken farm and the mishaps that they experience while making it a working farm. It is a delightful book, and it was made into a movie with Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert.

I agree with the Clan of the Cave Bear series. I love it.
Also the Left Behind series.
Other books I love:
Wuthering Heights
Girl of the Limberlost - for those who love rural settings, this is a great one. It was a favorite of my mom's when she was growing up, and became a favorite of mine too.
Freckles- by the same author as Girl of the Limberlost, and another great story.
Where the Red Fern Grows
Where the Lilies Bloom
