Thumbs up BOOK REVIEW - The last Juror by John Grisham

This is Grisham's newest book and another good one.

In 1970, one of Mississippi's more colorful weekly newspapers, The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a twenty-three-year old college dropout named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper.

The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courthouse in Clanton, Mississippi. The trail came to a startling and dramatic end when the defendant threatened revenge against the jurors if they convicted him. Nevertheless, they found him guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prision.

But in Mississippi in 1970, "life" didn't necessarily mean "life", and nine years later Danny Padgitt managed to get himself paroled. He returned to Ford Country and the retribution began.
This is a book that tells it like it was in the 70's and shows how others can be bought. As with the other 2 Grisham's books I've read, you never quite know how the book is going to end. This book again leaves you wondering the "what if's", something I really like in a book.

If there is one thing I have against the book, it would be that its done with Traynor telling his own story. I don't particularly like that in a book, but Grisham does do a good job of it.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
