Default Has anyone seen the original "Cheaper by the Dozen"?

Just this year a movie called "Cheaper by the Dozen" with Steve Marten was released. I never saw it but heard it was a remake of a movie of the same name about a family with 12 kids...but the original was really about how frugal they were etc. Has anyone seen it? Did you see the new remake and were they similar? I would like to know. I also know that there was a sequel to the movie as well but I don't remember the name of it.

I just thought those who didn't know it was a remake might be interested in watching it. Maybe we could all rent it and comment on it. Kinda like a movie review club!

I might go check the local movie store or the library today since I am laid up with a bad back.

Love that one too Darlene!! The original "Cheaper" is old....I remember my mother saying that she saw it as a kid....It's got (I think her name is) Myrna Lloyd or Loy or whatever her name is in it!!

It always sticks with me because my mom wanted a baker's dozen & I remember my dad saying that "this" is what it would be like when that movie was on.....

It was Yours, Mine and Ours. My mother said she worked witth one of the kids that the movie was actually made about when welived in CA. It is based on a true story.

Your, Mine and Ours has Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda in it. Totally different story than Cheaper by the Dozen. The remake of Cheaper by the Dozen is really funny. I have yet to see the original but my family and I have loved listening to it on audio tape. I think the sequeal is Bells on their Toes.

I remember watching the original movie when I was little. Yes, I do remember there was a lot of talk about being frugal and I remember almost everyone had red hair.

I have also read the book as well. I really enjoyed it!

I vaguely remember the first movie, I loved Yours Mine and ours! I also loved the book! Need to find it so I can reread it someday.

Another good one is "I remember mama" about a norwegian family living in the USA. Wonderful wonderful story.

I loved the original Cheaper By the Dozen. It was so funny. My favorite scene is the one in which the father goes to the school and proceeds to tell the staff the proper way to take a bath using no wasted motion or energy. It was hilarious. The scene in which they have to all have their tonsils out is funny too. Great movie! I have not seen the new one, I won't see it until it comes out on cable. I am looking forward to it though.

Have seen them both - the original Cheaper by the Dozen starred Clifton Webb, and was truer to the book, but we really enjoyed the re-make as well. Belles on Their Toes was the sequel to the original - both books were written by the Gilbreth (sp?) children. Their dad really was a groundbreaking efficiency expert who died fairly young (by today's standards) of heart disease. Their mom was quite a woman - took over her husband's work when he died, as well as raising those dozen kids by herself!!
