Question When reading, what are your thoughts?

Do you get lost in the book? Do you find yourself relating to a specific character or all the characters in a book?

Do you get angry at times when reading a book?

Do you find yourself wanting the ending to be different or wanting to change a character?

    Tell us about it.

Oh man, where do I start? I get lost in books, yes. It is my only escape from the tediousness of life. I sometimes relate to the characters but not all of them. I get mad when reading, too. The characters become real and I get mad when they do stupid things.

My heart will race and I'll get nervous sometimes, too. Wow! Maybe I take books too seriously! LOL

I'm often disappointed in the endings of books. (and movies for that matter) The ending doesn't have to be happy for me to like the book, but I don't like rushed endings. I don't mind interpreting things for myself, but I don't like the is that it feeling.

I prefer to read books where I can bond or identify with a specific character. I like to feel emotions when I read.

There's nothing better than a book that I can't put down.

I love reading and find I can easily get lost in books. Yes, I do get mad at the charactors in the books but I usually like the endings. After all if the book captivates me I finish it and it has gone through a lot of people to get to the stands, libraries, ect.

I tend to read modernist and postmodernist books so the interpretation of most of them is up to the reader. I rarely read best sellers, although having said that I did read The Shipping News a few years ago and I loved that. Generally I don't get caught up with the characters, I did literature major in my degree and had to read 13 novels per semester so I soon learned to distance myself from the storyline.

The best book by far that I have ever read was Ulysses. I never wanted that to end, I've read it twice. The last chapter is a 50 page soliloquy of one sentence with no punctuation. It's a masterpiece.

I like non fiction books best. I'm not sure what my thoughts are, but I like the total focus and concentrartion of following an idea.

I like to stretch a bit. I find when my mind is a bit fried due to the thyroid that stuff that is really hard or super easy are the only things that grab and hold me. And if I'm held by it, almost nothing can remove me. I'm in the book totally.

I love reading stuff that makes me laugh or think deeper about big themes like power and control or morality.

I too read The Shipping News and enjoyed it.
I don't like to have to work to spend my time reading a book. I think it's such a special thing to find one that grabs your attention. There are times in the past few years that I found myself crying during and at the end of a story, being so moved or understanding what the character must have felt. Then again sometimes I do laugh till I wake Jack up ...so it runs the gambit. One of the reasons I do read is for a book to send me. Going beyond my norm & feeling whatever, means we all get our moneys worth and then some.

There are certain books that I just get lost in!!!! The Left Behind series comes to mind immediately. There are some comedy ones by Patrick McManus that I also love and will just roll with laughter reading. I'm taking some from that series to my friend Diane that is recuperating in the hospital after having her knee replaced.

I agree with smnoel. I feel more emotions when I read books.

Lately, I've been reading a few books about Liverpool, England during the depression and think how lucky I am. We never think twice about having soap, toothpaste or a clean towel. Sometimes, books remind me how fortunate I am.

I often get totally caught up in a book I'm reading. I cry and laugh with the characters and if there is a very sad part I feel it could be me and my loved ones involved which only makes me cry more!
