Question Seris Premier of Joey....Whose watching

So is anyone going to watch this. Joe and I are going to. I can hook up the VCR and tape the first half of Big Brother, but all I care about is the eviction and new HOH comp and those won't be on til the second half of the show (although I will probably flip to BB during commercials.)

I've heard regular people say that they don't think it will last and catch on like Friends did, and then on the TV guide station's fall preview they said they thought it would be one of the better new comedy's this year. Only one way to find out and that is watch and see. I like that in one of the scene previews it takes a serious turn when he mentions how things change and mentions the rest of the gang back in NY.

I'll probably watch it and The Apprentice since it comes on after Joey.

I saw a little bit of it... maybe 10 mins altogether. Honestly, I don't see it catching on... not nearly to the hype of Friends. It just wasn't *that* funny. It may be because the whole time I was watching, I kept thinking... "I hope this is as good as it's supposed to be." Just that being in my head may have been what spoiled it.

    What does everyone else think???

I liked it. We laughed at almost the whole show. I know it won't be as good as Friends was but I am going to watch it anyway.

I caught part of it and then my mom called. I'm sure they will rerun it so I'll try to catch it then. I thought it started out funny though with the cab scene.

NBC has picked up JOEY for at least one season as of tonight:

I loved Friends, and I'm watching it out of loyalty and to see if it gets better. The Joey character is fun and I like the nephew, but his sister and Joey's agent aren't grabbing my interest at all.

Friends was a wonderful interplay between 6 people and it worked because each character was believable and had a lot of sympathetic qualities, they made you see thru their eyes.

Joey still does that but the sister is just going for the stereotype jokes, she lacks the depth of the others.

His agent is distorted into a lewd and bawdy brainless wonder.

And the lawyer lady who is the super, she is just the straight man in the comedy bits and seems a bit cardboardy.

the nephew is also a straight man in the comedy set up, but he is coming across with a LITTLE more depth to him, not a 2 dimensional character. but not a lot better.

Stuff takes time to find a rthym that works and so do new actors so I'll give it a few more episodes.

All in all I don't think the other actors or the lines they are writing for them is enough to set off the Joey character in the way that the rest of the cast of Friends did.

Joey's character was a bit of an ethnic joke but the guy who plays him was always able to pull it off without letting it slide into a boring stereotype. Largely because of the other actors providing a balance.

This isn't happening yet, but it might.
