Frontier House spoiler and discussion
I am loving it!!!
Omg those Clunes are spoiled brats. It's killing me.
Now someone please tell me, who decided who had an established cabin, who got carpenters, and who had to build from scratch? Was that their own funds? (I missed this)
All the carrying on over makeup. Good golly!
When the dog ate their "scones" I was dying. *LMAO*
What did you guys think?

I loved it too--
I think that each family was given a little "story" about their background and how much money they had in savings. In that same little book, it also told them if they had to build/arrange for builders to make their home or if it was already built. So the spoiled rich brats (The Clunes) didn't have one already built but decided to have one built for them. The father & son team decided to build their own, and the other family already had theirs built. I'm not sure what determined what each family's path was...maybe someone else can fill us in on that part.
I couldn't stand all the moaning and complaining! Sheesh--these people VOLUNTEERED for this--did they think it was going to be a walk in the park? Apparently...
It's too bad all they do is complain, but I do find it interesting all that I am learning by watching it.
That poor little boy, "This is the worst day of my life! I fell off a wagon, I lost my worm without getting a bite, I got attacked by a dog! You call that fun??" LMAO

I missed the first hour of the show (had to watch Jon Bon Jovi on Ally McBeal - priorities, ya know? LOL), but I taped it so I will defintely go back and watch it. I am in the dark as well as to who ended up with what as far as the houses were concerned.
I really like Nate and his father and the Glenn family. The Clunes have already gotten way beyond my last nerve. What a bunch of spoiled rotten whiners! Ugh! The two daughters just seem like total brats (and the mom too!).

It was on at 9 and 10pm Eastern time last night, and I think it's on the same times tonight and tomorrow night. I will double check that info--it's probably listed on www.pbs.org though.

I just caught the last 1/2 hour of this show and it was hilarious. "no more sweets for the bread" "look at my legs, they are so cold" what a bunch of whiners! and the Glenn woman basically telling the Clune woman "if you can't hang GO HOME" LMAO

Pumpkin - it comes on again tonight from 9-11 and tomorrow night from 9-11 (those times are EST). I have also seen online that the entire 6 hours will be shown again on PBS this weekend, but I don't know when.

Back to the housing~
I guess The Glenn's really had it the easiest with everything being all in place for them. I don't think they would be having so much "fun" otherwise.
I truly felt horrible for the Brooks. Watching them have to build from scratch.
When I saw their garden frozen over I felt terrible. I loved how the son was so thankful for the time with his father. That made me cry and it was just so beautiful.
They are so helpful to the others and it made me mad to think the others weren't as helpful to them. (although maybe they were, but it wasn't shown on the show) I did see the others help a little though.
As far as no more "sweets" for the bread. *LOL* How about the part where she then says because there's no sweets she didn't realize part of this "adventure" included starving? I have to say though her family did lose a lot of weight. As much as I couldn't take their whining, I do think those girls milking a cow was a huge deal to them. I bet they haven't done a chore ever in their lives. Can ya hear them talking about it someday? ~~And once my father made us go on this pioneer show on tv and we had to milk a cow and carry the pails uphill, for miles, in the snow. *LOL*~~

They called in a vet and they had the cow on it's back and rocked it back and forth to get the stomach back in place. (stomach? guys? I forget)Originally posted by CAGmomof2

It then got sick one more time, but then was later returned with calf supposedly in good health and producing milk again.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here. It was late. *LOL*

Frontier House
Personally, I am highly disappointed in the show. It's too much like Survivor. I expected to be entertained and instead, found myself getting agitated over all of the negativity and the bickering. Why can't they just have ONE family trying to make it on their own? Why does everything have to be competitive? Folks who are truly interested in frugality wanting to "get off the grid" are interested in seeing how to go about it. I give the show a thumbs down.

Re: Frontier House
I can understand if you had expectations why you would be disappointed. I think many people were probably disappointed by this show. I have to admit that it isn't what I was expecting, but I really have been enjoying this show anyway. I sure didn't enjoy it as much as Beyond The Prairie II. I do think the bickering is nuts too. I don't mind that it's "reality" based at all though. All I can say is I haven't laughed so hard in awhile, so it hasn't been a total disappointment to me. I love disliking the Clunes.Originally posted by lilithjune

Back to show talk~~
Here's an interesting deep thought..LOL
Why were the rags in the outhouse so darn tiny? *LMAO*
Anyone else find it especially funny as Ms. Glenn was in a fight with her husband she was churning butter? I have no idea why that struck me as so darn funny.

Boy..what a dynamic here.
Personally, the Clune parents, and Ms. Glenn, are three people I would not have as friends. I can tell you right now I do not like the ethics of the Clunes (bottom-feeders, if you ask me. Very self-centered) and Ms. Glenn is a real piece of work. I can't imagine coming home to her everyday. The Clunes don't seem to mind cheating / being unethical, and justify it every step of the way. He was so obsessed about his wieght (look at me! look at me!) and then to find out he was finally a "healthy" weight and simply needed to drink more water. Ha! The "liquor still / children participating" topic made me chime "ooohhhh puuullleeezzzeeee" and the mother seemed to be "snickering" right along. And then they cheat, and go into town. Doesn''t seem to bother them one bit.
I can understand where the Glenns feel frustrated. They are playing by the rules, and everyone in their home is just as hungry.
That having been said, boy, that Ms. Glenn. The part where she basically says "Everyone reports to me, I report to noone". Sheesh. I feel sorry for Mr. Glenn. He's always so afraid of doing something wrong around her....Poor sap.
Now, here's the part I don't understand. It's obvious to me that having children is much harder..so many more mouths to feed. And it is so much tougher to hear your children cry over hunger. When they put that chicken on the table, my first thought was: "oh my. How are they going to fill 4-adult-sized appetites, and one ravenous child, with that one chicken". For Nate & bride, one chicken could suffice as 2 or even 3 meals.
I also think its easier for Nate/bride, because they are newlyweds. They are in the throes of "new love" (if you will) and all that. Every little thing they do is still cute/sweet/adorable to eachother. For "mature" marriages...the dynamic will be different. So, in that respect, the stress level (and w/ children especially) definately effects the marriage/family differently.
I think the teen girls are doing AWESOME! I'm very impressed! I couldn't believe they even ate the snake. Nice young girls, IMO. The boys are boys..gotta love em.
BTW - was anyone surprised at the personality of Nates bride? He's so kind and charming....and she's so...um, er...NOT!
2nd BTW - BOY...NATE'S BROTHER WAS GOOOOOD-LOOOKIN!!!!! (although, Nate's no slouch himself LOL)
All-in-all..entertaining show~

I finally got to watch the last aprt of this thing last night.....and on one hand..Im thrilled...its much more a "survival"test than that pretty lil "springer"type crap on network tv......on the other hand...Im in agreement with many of you...my GOD what a bunch of whiners!!...You expect the children to Whine..its their JOB....but the adult! geeeezzzz......this is how it is...deal wih it and move on......real frontier families dint have the TIME to sit around and mope every time they had a bruise...or felt a little dirty.
and I have one thing to say about the "newly-weds"
Everytime the camara is on the husband...hes WORKING...hard physical labor.......everytime the camara is on her.....shes trying to wash her hair...LOL.....oh yeah.....there was the time she was knitting......while laid back on the bed...dang...Ill trade with HER ..that looks like the LIFE!!!!
