March Book Club book selection
March Book selection is Surviving the Tough Times by Pat Mistretta.
This book is fairly new, but can be ordered through Amazon.com or directly from the publisher
http://booklocker.com/books/1833.html Can also read an excerpt there too.
I'm giving the announcement early to give enough time for book club members to be able to get this book.
Frugal Village is mentioned in this book and Pat Mistretta will be guest author for a chat event in March. I will post the details when it's finalized.

Maybe my library system will have it by then - it takes them a long time to get new items in the system.

I love this book. Now this one to me is really practical and very good with the resources. I saw Frugal Village's blurb on page 35 I think. Yep I just started it tonight and am that far already.
Good choice Sara. When I'm done, I'm going to share the info in this book with my sister.

Here's a book review.
If you have never been laid-off before, lost the financial spouse, been widowed without life insurance to see you through, your food stamps taken away because you look like the kind of person who will succeed, one of the above, none of the above or all of the above, then Pat Mistretta's book, Surviving Tough Times is the book for you.
As a single parent of one gifted child and raised without the proper introduction to the business world, I learned the hard way of how to survive recession and sixteen years of bringing up one child. Many of the tips, agency lists, and information that Ms. Mistretta shares with you is life saving. No matter how you arrive into tough times, this book, Surviving Tough Times will take you from A through Z as you manage your life without a lot of money, with no possibility of finding a new job soon, or rebuilding your life. Your children will thank you for the opportunity to be brought up on the minimum wage level and someday, they too, may find themselves in the same situation. Unlike their peers, they'll know how to handle those tough times and thanking Mom or Pop for giving them the dignity to survive anything.
I found Surviving the Tough Times a genuine article of sheer persistence, determination, and you can make it, too, if you know the hidden secrets that the federal and state government don't often provide to you when you're going through that stage of life. I give Surviving the Tough Times a 4 star rating. Good job Ms. Mistretta.

Guess I'm ordering from good old Amazon!

Who's reading this one now and what's everyone thinking about it?
I took a little break in the middle of the book to read something else a friend wanted to share with me. Now I'm back on this one and really think it's a great resource.

This is a great book that had a lot of useful information in it. Even if you are not in dire straights, this has lots of helpful info to offer. In fact, I am having a Frugal Living discussion with my HeadStart Parent Committee, and I am going to bring this book and add it to our parent resource library. Having been in the position of creditors calling, house in pre-foreclosure, while at the same time trying to prevent a pre-term birth and failing, I could certainly relate to everything the author talked about and I agreed 98% of the time. Great choice! Sorry I missed the chat.
