Default Are meat prices outragous where you live?

I went shopping yesterday and it seemed like no matter which kind of meat/poultry I wanted to purchase the prices just seemed so outragous that I couldn't bring myself to spend that much. I think we will be having some meatless meals this week. I am curious if the prices have gone up everywhere, I had a lot of meat in our freezer and hadn't had to purchase any for quite some time. Now I don't think I will be able to restock at these prices!

They sure are--- I've been fortunate to find some with red stickers that are deeply discounted- but even at that, it's more than I generally pay for meat.

We've cut our meat consumption drastically too.

If a friend hadn't given us a deer this year, we wouldn't be eating meat as often as we have been. It's just way to expensive to contemplate buying a lot of. The sales I normally stock up on at this time of year just aren't there.

I only purchase chicken and I've noticed a price increase as well. I don't buy any red meat.

Yes they have. I do pretty well when I time it just right & get the marked down meats. As a rule I never pay more than $1.99lb for any meat. When I get a good price I buy & freeze.
How people can buy anything in the deli meat department is beyond me.

Beef is through the roof here. Poultry, fish and pork is fairly reasonable when bought on sale. I never thought I would see the day when shellfish was cheaper than eating beef.

Ground beef is inexpensive here, everything else is through the roof. Considering that many farmers can't make ends meet these days, I'm pretty sure they are not the ones boosting prices.

We have cut back quite a bit on meat but I can't go completely meatless because DS#1 needs meat (especially) red in his diet.

OUrs aren't bad. For example, our sale prices: rump roast is $1.99/lb. Frozen b/s chicken breasts are 4 lbs for $7 ($1.75/lb).

Yes, they are outrageous. I have been doing many more meatless dinners because of this.

No hamburger or steaks for us. Hamburger (the cheapest has been 2 dollars a pound, and steak is at least 7 dollars a pound. Chicken legs and thighs are cheap, as well as boneless pork loin, so I have been making do with that. Some pot roasts aren't too bad either.

Yes, very high here as well. I do find boneless skinless chicken breast on sale for around $2.00 a pound, ground round on sale for $1.99 a pound. We never have steaks or chops, roast very rarely. I used to be able to find chuck roast and round steak for less than $2.00 a pound, but not for quite a while. We eat alot of tuna, and beans. Tonight we had baked potatoes topped with Hormel chili (bought on sale and with a coupon, also did a rebate, so my cost was about 10¢ a can). We eat eggs and omelets too. Eggs can still be found on good sales around here. Last week they were 69¢ a dozen. I stock up on canned tuna when Walgreen's puts it on sale for 39¢ a can. Even the marked down meats are not such a good deal anymore. They used to mark them 40-50% off, now it is just 20%.

I only buy chicken at the store, and only if it's on sale and then I stock up and freeze. I sub venison for beef, and we raise a few pigs for meat. We catch our own fish, shrimp and crabs to put up in the freezer to eat during the winter. Since we don't have chickens at this time, we buy eggs from a friend for $1 a dozen. Will have our own chickens again soon for meat and eggs, and we plan to buy cow in the near future too. We just cleared another garden plot this week, so we will have two nice gardens this spring. We are still have a few cabbage and enough greens in the winter garden for a few more meals.
